PILLZCASSO: Vpop music manifesto explodes with 7.1 Pitchfork points!
Vietnamese fans were "buzzing" when music site Pitchfork gave a score to a Vietnamese album.
It is worth mentioning that the album was rated 7.1 points - an impressive number for a famous and difficult music site like Pitchfork. In the article, critic Joshua Minsoo Kim also gave many compliments to the album PILLZCASSO, highly appreciated the Vietnamese quality that 2pillz put into each song and affectionately called it "the strongest musical statement of Vpop this year".
2pillz's album PILLZCASSO includes 14 songs featuring many artists such as Van Mai Huong, Phuong Dung, MONO, tlinh, GREY D, GDUCKY, Orange, Vu Phung Tien, WOKEUP...
After its release, the album PILLZCASSO reached Top 1 on the most listened albums chart of iTunes Vietnam and iTunes Germany, and Top 3 on iTunes Canada.
On YouTube, the Full Performance Video , which is over 53 minutes long, also garnered over 337,000 views - a remarkable achievement for a music producer like 2pillz.
The score of 7.1 that Pitchfork gave to the album PILLZCASSO is equivalent to the score given to Jennie's album Ruby, which is in the Top albums from Asia evaluated by this music site.
Pitchfork critic Joshua Minsoo Kim introduced the album PILLZCASSO as "a confident and gentle collection of dance pop, bringing together many Vietnamese artists for a vibrant party hour with a standard blue ocean vibe, including the moments of moodiness afterwards.
Despite its relaxing and restrained tone, this is still Vpop's strongest musical statement this year."
"Above all, what creates PILLZCASSO's unique identity is the emotional fusion between the resilient bounce of vinahouse and the profound lyricism of Vietnamese ballads.
Watching the evolution of pop music is about observing how young artists seek representation, and make universal experiences new.
No current Vpop album shows a clear and confident generational shift like PILLZCASSO" - Pitchfork commented.
PILLZCASSO: Discover 2pillz's "rebellious" inspiration through music!
2pillz is the hottest producer in the Vietnamese music market today.
Sharing about the inspiration behind the album PILLZCASSO, 2pillz said: "The album name was inspired by Pablo Picasso, a rebellious and limitless art icon. Similarly, 2pillz (or PILLZCASSO) wants to use music to paint personal colors that are both chaotic and full of depth."
In this new album, 2pillz also boldly experimented with many musical genres from House, Afrobeat, Drum & Bass, Bossanova to Bolero and Vietnamese folk materials (dan da, dan T'rung,...).
All of this creates a unique musical concept called "Vinafro" - a fusion of Vietnamese cultural identity with the vibrant beats of global club music.
2pillz shared: "I've always liked afrobeat music and its "variations" when combined with other music genres that I named myself such as: boleafro (bolero + afro), ballad (ballad + afro) ... and when combined with Vietnamese sounds, it will give rise to Vinafro. Besides Vinahouse, I hope that Vinafro will also become something that helps Vietnamese music have special and interesting features."
