Designing a car is no easy task, with everyone seeing your work and having an opinion. If that wasn’t enough pressure, some designers are also faced with the task of creating blocky SUVs that are both powerful and unique. Some do it well, while others fail. This brings us to Fang Cheng Bao's latest model, the Tai 7. Images of the model have just been revealed by China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
The Fang Cheng Bao Tai 7 looks like a mix of several luxury SUVs, most notably the Land Rover Defender. This is perhaps not too surprising since Fang Cheng Bao is BYD's luxury brand. The Fang Cheng Bao Tai 7 has an undeniably similar appearance to the Land Rover Defender. The front end is almost a copy of the Defender, except for the split headlights instead of the round ones. The Land Rover Defender-inspired design continues to the rear, but here, it also incorporates some Lexus GX cues. Key highlights include the angular wheel arches, muscular bodywork, and Land Rover Defender-like window glass.
The company even kept the controversial Land Rover side panels, just reduced them and placed them in a more hidden position. At the rear, the Fang Cheng Bao Tai 7 is equipped with a Land Rover Defender-inspired rear bumper with a contrasting silver finish. In addition, the car also has a square frame on the trunk door, similar to the pure electric Mercedes G-Class. Fang Cheng Bao Tai 7 has dimensions of length x width x height of 4,999 x 1,995 x 1,865 mm and a wheelbase of 2,920 mm. There is not much more information about this model yet. It is only known that the car will be sold with 2 wheel options of 18 inches and 19 inches. With a fairly large size, the car is positioned in the large SUV segment. Compared to the Land Rover Defender 130, the car is about 102 mm shorter and the wheelbase is also 102 mm shorter. However, compared to the Land Rover Defender 110, the car is about 241 mm longer. Previously, the interior of the Fang Cheng Bao Tai 7 was caught in China. The car is equipped with 2 rows of seats with 5 seats. The dashboard of the car comes with a large floating screen. The gear lever is located behind the four-spoke steering wheel with a flat bottom.
The "heart" of the Tai 7 is a plug-in hybrid powertrain consisting of a 1.5L, 4-cylinder gasoline engine with a maximum capacity of 154 horsepower. The engine is combined with an electric motor with a maximum capacity of 268 horsepower and a lithium-iron-phosphate battery. This powertrain produces a total capacity of 483 horsepower, helping the 2,230 kg SUV reach a maximum speed of 190 km/h. The car can run 130 km without consuming a drop of gasoline according to China's CLTC standard. Fang Cheng Bao Tai 7 is expected to launch later this year. Chinese media predicts that the starting price of the car will be around 300,000 yuan (about 1.05 billion VND). The Fang Cheng Bao car brand was launched by BYD in 2023. The company's current product line includes 3 models: Bao 5 (Leopard 5), Bao 8 (Leopard 8) and Ti3 (Tai 3, Titanium 3).
