"The Princess in Red"
Ganh Son is located in the old Chi Cong commune, now Phan Ri Cua commune, Lam Dong province, about 80 km from the center of Phan Thiet. This place is likened to a "red-dressed princess" sleeping, because of its wild and charming beauty. The red clay mountains mixed with the deep blue of the sea and sky and the colorful baskets of fishermen create a vivid natural picture, rarely found anywhere else. In particular, the white sand beach stretching hundreds of meters is an ideal place for sports activities and outdoor activities.
Local fishermen said that under the influence of nature, rainwater flowing through the hillsides has created rows of red clay with unique and strange shapes. Over millions of years of formation, those hills gently curve along the coast, like giant sculptures, which is where the name Ganh Son was born. The brilliant vermillion color under the morning sun, becomes magical when the sunset falls, blending with the turquoise color of the sea. From a height of about 20 - 25 m above sea level, visitors can admire the whole view of Ganh Son like a vivid ink painting, where each frame has its own romantic beauty.
To get to Ganh Son, we passed through the Duong fishing village, the familiar name of Chi Cong commune. The residents here live close together along the strait, mainly fishing near the shore. Every house has 1-2 basket boats for squid fishing, diving or casting nets near the shore. Along the coast of Ganh Son, the basket boats lie in layers, stretching hundreds of them, some with small engines, some with only hand oars. Duong fishermen are simple, honest, and have spent their whole lives attached to the sea. They are not only the keepers of the fire for the fishing village but also contribute to preserving the marine environment of their homeland.
Mr. Tran Thien Di, a long-time fisherman in Duong, said: “This is the intersection of two ocean currents, one from the North, one from the South, so seafood such as squid, clams, shrimp, fish, and crabs all converge here, forming the long-standing diving profession of Duong. The active upwelling water also brings nutrients from the deep, creating an abundant food source for marine life. Therefore, Duong seafood is famous for its deliciousness and richness, especially fresh squid, dried squid, and shrimp paste.”
“For beloved Ganh Son”
Despite being blessed by nature, coastal waste is still a burning issue in Ganh Son. This place has not yet been exploited for tourism , but without the cooperation of the government and people in handling waste, the "red princess" will hardly be awakened. For nearly 10 years, the campaign "For beloved Ganh Son" initiated by Dinh Xuan Tien and local youth has regularly organized garbage clean-ups around the Ganh Son area every time near the Lunar New Year. This meaningful activity contributes to raising community awareness and preserving the pristine beauty of the fishing village. Tien shared: “I was born and raised here, but now I work far away, only coming back near Tet and often stopping by Ganh Son to swim. Seeing the beach full of trash, especially during Tet when there are many visitors, I came up with the idea of calling on everyone to join hands to clean up the trash. Starting in 2016, the program "For Beloved Ganh Son" initially had few participants, but now it has attracted hundreds of people from young and old, helping to reduce waste, protect the environment and build a green - clean - beautiful homeland."
In 2019, Binh Thuan province approved the investment policy of the Ganh Son Scenic, Cultural and Community Tourism Area and Park project of DOP Investment and Import-Export Joint Stock Company with an area of over 6.2 hectares. However, up to now, Ganh Son still retains its peaceful beauty. If the project is implemented, the local economy will develop, people's lives will improve and the fishing village will become more bustling. Therefore, the government and people always hope that Ganh Son will awaken and become one of the most attractive coastal destinations.
