
A Xan belongs to 4 highland border communes of Tay Giang district, about 47km from the district administrative center.
If in the early days of re-establishing the commune, most of the people lived scattered in streams, hills and mountains at risk of flash floods and landslides, and lived a nomadic life, then up to now, 15 resettlement sites have been invested in building with a total area of nearly 15 hectares, stably arranging for 702 households/2,614 people. People have stable and long-term residential land near concentrated production and livestock areas.

The locality has integrated many investment sources to complete infrastructure; 6/6 villages have concreted roads; there are 11 domestic water works, and national grid electricity serving people's daily life and production; 6/6 villages have telephone coverage.
In 1994, the commune Party Committee had 5 Party cells with 38 Party members, and by 2024, it had increased to 12 Party cells with 245 Party members. The Party Committee and people of A Xan commune were awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forcesby the President . The Prime Minister awarded a Certificate of Merit to the collective of people and cadres of A Xan commune for their achievements in protecting the Pơmu Heritage Tree.

At the anniversary meeting, A Xan commune awarded certificates of merit to 5 collectives and 15 individuals with outstanding achievements, contributing to the local development process over the past 30 years.
On this occasion, leaders of Tay Giang district presented gifts to representatives of 5 Laotian hamlets bordering A Xan commune. The Border Guard Command of Quang Nam province presented 10 gifts to village elders in the commune.
