The Central Asian Football Confederation (CAFA) will be held for the first time in 2023, bringing together teams such as Iran, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Kyrgyzstan. Of which, Iran and Uzbekistan have qualified for the 2026 World Cup. The remaining teams such as Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Kyrgyzstan are all of average quality in Asia.

This year, the tournament has two guest teams, Malaysia and Oman. Oman was invited last year. Initially, Malaysia was not the priority to be invited to this tournament. Instead, this spot belonged to the Russian team.

However, the White Birch team refused to participate. Therefore, Malaysia was chosen as a replacement. The "Tigers" caused a fever in Asia when they won 4-0 against the Vietnamese team in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers on June 10. That made many teams in Asia start to pay attention to this team.

Malaysia's quality has improved significantly with the addition of naturalized stars from Europe and South America. That makes coach Peter Cklamovski and his team confident enough to compete with strong opponents in the Central Asian region.

The Central Asian Championship is scheduled to take place from August 28 to September 9 in Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan. In the first edition last year, Iran won the championship after defeating Uzbekistan 1-0 in the final.
