According to information from the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine of Quang Binh province, African swine fever has been detected in two communes of Thuong Hoa and Tan Thanh in Minh Hoa district. However, the epidemic situation is being strictly controlled and there are no signs of spreading to other areas.
The disease first appeared in Thuong Hoa commune on May 15, then spread to Tan Thanh commune from May 28. In these two communes, the disease affected 24 households in 7 villages, leading to the destruction of 93 pigs with a total weight of 5,216 kg.
Head of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine of Quang Binh province, Mr. Tran Cong Tam, said that as soon as the epidemic was detected in Thuong Hoa and Tan Thanh, the agency coordinated with localities to conduct inspections and instruct people to apply timely preventive measures.
In addition, veterinary staff are also required to detect and immediately handle cases of pigs showing signs of disease. Propaganda work has also been enhanced, encouraging people not to buy, sell or slaughter sick pigs, as well as not to throw pig carcasses into the environment, to prevent the spread of the disease.
To ensure effective control of African swine fever and minimize losses to farmers, authorities and local governments will continue to synchronously implement disease prevention and control solutions, while organizing close inspection and monitoring to prevent the disease from spreading widely.
