Durian lovers in Singapore are eagerly awaiting the peak harvest season, with predictions that the price of the king of fruits could fall by up to 30%.

Lim Wei, owner of Durian Delight stall at Jurong East Market, said that the supply of durians is more abundant this year than last year. The durian season usually runs from June to September, but Lim said the peak season will be in July due to the changing weather.

His stall focuses on premium durian varieties such as Musang King and Black Thorn, imported mainly from Johor, Malaysia – a region famous for its excellent quality durians. In addition to Malaysia, Singapore also imports durians from Thailand and a small amount from Indonesia.

"It's just the beginning of the season, production is limited so prices are still high. In July, when supply is more abundant, prices will drop significantly," Lim said.
