Nam Dinh: Resolutely prevent African swine fever, not allowing it to spread widely
Currently, African swine fever (ASF) is developing complicatedly, so the Provincial People's Committee requests functional departments, branches, districts, cities and especially livestock farmers to actively implement measures to prevent and combat this dangerous disease; at the same time, proactively monitor, detect, control and immediately extinguish the epidemic, not allowing it to spread widely, determined to protect livestock safety.
According to the report of Hai Hau District People's Committee, on May 16, 2025, at Mr. Pham Chi Tam's household, Quang Ha hamlet, Hai Quang commune, the pig herd had 7 sows, 6 pigs, and 14 young pigs sick; of which 6 pigs died. The test results of the specimens were positive for ASF virus.
Then, on May 17 and 18, 2025, the epidemic continued to spread to a number of families in Quang Khai hamlet, including: Mr. Tran Van Bac's household (3 sows, 2 pigs, of which 2 sows, total weight 216kg died); Mr. Luong Thanh Giang's household (4 sows, 23 piglets, of which 2 piglets, weight 15kg died); Mrs. Nguyen Thi Tot's household, Quang Ha hamlet (3 sows, 2 piglets, of which 1 sow, weight 90kg died)...
Thus, from May 8, 2025 when the ASF outbreak appeared in Hong Quang commune (Y Yen) to May 18, 2025, the whole province had 5 households raising pigs in 2 communes of 2 districts of Y Yen and Hai Hau with ASF. The total number of infected and destroyed pigs was 12 with a total destroyed weight of 615 kg.
Faced with the complicated developments of the ASF and its tendency to spread widely, Hai Hau district has quickly deployed synchronous measures to detect, contain, control and suppress the epidemic, according to Nam Dinh newspaper.
