Pig price today May 31: Calm on Doan Ngo Festival

Pig prices remained quiet on the Doan Ngo Festival, the 5th day of the 5th lunar month, while the market continuously received a lot of information such as the fact that Vietnam Joint Stock Company was "accused" of selling diseased pork in Soc Trang and in Ha Tinh, the police also seized a vehicle carrying 180 pigs infected with African swine fever that were being transported for consumption.

In the North, the price of live pigs is commonly from 68,000 - 69,000 VND/kg; in Nam Dinh, Ninh Binh and Lao Cai, it is 67,000 VND/kg, the lowest in the region.

In the Central region, the provinces from Thanh Hoa to Quang Ngai maintain prices from 67,000 - 69,000 VND/kg. The provinces from Binh Dinh to Binh Thuan and the Central Highlands generally range from 70,000 - 74,000 VND/kg, with Khanh Hoa having the lowest price at 69,000 VND/kg.

In the Southern region, the highest price of live pigs continues to be in Long An at 76,000 VND/kg. The remaining provinces and cities maintain prices from 74,000 - 75,000 VND/kg.

The average price of live pigs nationwide is 70,900 VND/kg. The Chinese market is 52,400 VND/kg.

On May 28, Ha Tinh Provincial Police discovered and arrested a driver in Nghe An Province who was transporting 180 pigs without documents on origin, quarantine, etc. The Ha Tinh Police Department for Investigation of Crimes on Corruption, Economy, Smuggling and Environment coordinated with the Veterinary Department of Region III to take samples for testing. By May 30, the results showed that all of the pigs were infected with African swine fever.

Also on May 30, the interdisciplinary inspection team of Soc Trang province inspected a CP Freshop store in Soc Trang of CP Vietnam Livestock Joint Stock Company after a former employee "accused" it of selling substandard products. Soc Trang Provincial Police are currently working with the accuser to clarify the contents of the petition.

In Ho Chi Minh City, the price of pork at wholesale markets ranges from 85,000 - 92,000 VND/kg. Retail prices of meat at distribution channels have not fluctuated much, some popular items such as pig tail 230,000 VND/kg, cutlets 114,000 VND/kg, thigh meat 147,000 VND/kg, pork belly 214,000 VND/kg, ribless pork belly 250,000 VND/kg, boneless pork leg 152,000 VND/kg, lean meat 193,000 VND/kg..../.
