Durian price assessment today May 18, 2025
Currently, the purchase price of durian in regions such as the Mekong Delta, the Southeast and the Central Highlands is showing clear differences between varieties. Ri6 durian, one of the popular varieties, costs from 65,000 VND/kg for VIP to 42,000 - 43,000 VND/kg for B. Thai durian, with higher quality, costs up to 100,000 VND/kg for VIP and ranges from 60,000 - 63,000 VND/kg for B.
In addition, other durian varieties such as Chuong Bo, Sau Huu, Musang King and Black Thorn also have quite diverse prices, from 30,000 to 130,000 VND/kg, depending on quality and consumption market.
There are many factors that will influence the future price of durian. First, there is increasing market demand, especially from exporting countries such as China. This can put pressure on prices, pushing them up. Second, climate and seasonality also play an important role. If the weather is favorable, production will be high, but if there is a natural disaster, supply will decrease and prices may increase sharply.
Product quality is also a deciding factor. Premium durians such as Musang King or Black Thorn are often priced higher due to their distinctive flavor and market preference. As product quality improves, prices tend to increase as well.
Durian prices are expected to increase slightly in the coming period, especially for premium varieties. Ri6 durians may maintain their current prices or increase by 5-10% in the coming season. Thai durians are expected to remain stable, but may increase due to export demand. Varieties such as Musang King and Black Thorn are likely to increase sharply due to high consumption.
In summary, the future price of durian will be affected by many factors, including market demand, climate, and product quality. Farmers should focus on improving quality to meet demand and optimize profits.
Durian price news today May 18, 2025
In An Giang , local authorities are warning about the risk of “mass planting and mass cutting” of durian. Mr. Ho Van Mung, Chairman of the People’s Committee of An Giang Province, emphasized the need to consider expanding the area of durian plantations to avoid destruction when the market declines. He proposed a fundamental solution of closely linking with businesses to ensure a stable and long-term consumption market.
According to traders, if the progress of customs clearance remains good and the supply of durian from Thailand and Malaysia has not increased sharply, domestic durian prices may increase slightly again by the end of May. However, the prerequisite is to control the quality of raw material areas well and improve the packaging and post-harvest preservation process.
Thailand, with government support, has set up 10 qualified testing centers, which have helped speed up the customs clearance of durian into China. Every day, about 500 containers of durian from Thailand, equivalent to 10,000 tons, are exported to China with a very low rate of returned shipments. Meanwhile, Vietnamese durian has encountered difficulties due to uneven control of chemical residues, leading to technical warnings and customs suspensions.
Thailand has built a strict quality control system from the garden to the warehouse, creating trust for the Chinese market, while Vietnam only controls the packaging facility. In addition, Thailand also coordinates between ministries and branches to promote the consumption of agricultural products, creating a strong effect on the market.
Durian in eastern Vietnam is currently in harvest season, followed by the Central Highlands. Without changes in production and consumption strategies, Vietnam may lose more market share to Thailand in the coming time.
