The domestic durian market on May 8, 2025 continued to remain low. In the southwestern provinces, Ri6 durian type A is being purchased at around 50,000 - 55,000 VND/kg; type B at 32,000 - 35,000 VND/kg and type C ranging from 25,000 - 28,000 VND/kg. The Ri6 VIP line alone costs 60,000 - 65,000 VND/kg.
Thai A durian has also dropped sharply, currently trading at 70,000 - 72,000 VND/kg; VIP durian is at 80,000 - 85,000 VND/kg. Meanwhile, high-end varieties such as Musang King remain stable at 125,000 - 130,000 VND/kg.
In the Southeast region, durian prices are even lower, Ri6 A is only 45,000 - 52,000 VND/kg, VIP is still priced at 60,000 VND/kg. Thai A durian here is priced at 68,000 - 70,000 VND/kg, Thai VIP is at 80,000 VND/kg.
Faced with low prices and a lack of traders, many gardeners in Phong Dien District ( Can Tho ) and Chau Thanh A District (Hau Giang) have directly brought durian to the side of National Highway 61C for retail sale. The price of durian sold along the road ranges from 30,000 to 60,000 VND/kg, depending on quality.
According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Giang - Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Hau Giang province, the durian market is facing many difficulties: uneven quality, weak demand and competitive pressure from other markets.
Current supply is increasing sharply due to the expansion of durian cultivation areas in many regions. However, strict requirements from China – the main export market – on quarantine and quality control have prolonged the customs clearance process, causing congestion and affecting prices.
At the same time, at wholesale markets and supermarkets, purchasing power is still low after a long holiday. Businesses are purchasing sparingly, while traders are worried that inventory will not be able to be quickly turned around, so they limit their purchases.
