Currently, domestic and international pepper prices are facing many unfavorable factors. The USD continues to increase in value, reducing the purchasing power of importing countries. At the same time, speculative capital flows strongly into gold, causing money to move away from agricultural products, including pepper.

In Vietnam, the new coffee harvest has begun and is attracting a strong domestic capital flow. Some agents, businesses and farmers have to sell off their pepper inventories to have capital to invest, purchase and process coffee, a commodity with a high price at the beginning of the season.

This temporary shift has led to an increase in sales, causing domestic prices to trend sideways or slightly decrease in some areas. However, this decrease is considered insignificant because the actual supply is not abundant.

In the long term, experts predict that pepper prices will continue to increase due to the decline in global supply. Many major producing countries such as Indonesia, Brazil and India are facing difficulties due to erratic weather and high farming costs.

World pepper prices and influencing factors

In the world market, based on quotes from exporting enterprises and export prices in countries, the International Pepper Association (IPC) updated the latest pepper prices as of October 18, 2025 as follows:

Indonesia's Lampung black pepper prices decreased slightly by 0.07% to USD 7,228/ton. Similarly, Muntok white pepper prices decreased slightly by 0.06% to USD 10,085/ton.

Brazilian black pepper ASTA 570 price remained unchanged at USD 6,100/mt.

Malaysia’s ASTA black pepper price remained unchanged at $9,500 per tonne. Meanwhile, the country’s ASTA white pepper price also remained unchanged at $12,500 per tonne.

Prices of all types of Vietnamese pepper remain unchanged, of which, the price of Vietnamese black pepper 500 gr/l remains unchanged at 6,400 USD/ton; the price of 550 gr/l remains unchanged at 6,600 USD/ton.

Similarly, Vietnam's white pepper price remained unchanged at USD 9,050/ton.

Regarding exports, traditional markets such as the US, Europe and the Middle East have all recorded positive signals in recent months. However, the biggest export expectation of the Vietnamese pepper industry in the Chinese market has not achieved the expected results.

China’s import demand has increased more slowly than expected, somewhat affecting the overall demand of the global pepper market. However, Vietnam still maintains its position as the world’s largest pepper exporter, accounting for more than 40% of global trading volume.

According to the Center for Industry and Trade Information (VITIC - Ministry of Industry and Trade), domestic pepper prices currently fluctuate around 145,000 - 155,000 VND/kg depending on the region and quality of goods.

If supply continues to tighten due to farmers hoarding their products in anticipation of better prices, pepper prices could easily surpass VND155,000/kg by the end of the month. Conversely, if farmers rush to sell to clear their stocks during the coffee harvest, prices could adjust slightly but would be unlikely to drop significantly.
