According to data from the General Department of Customs, in April 2025, Vietnam exported 26,428 tons of pepper, earning 184.1 million USD. Compared to the previous month, output increased by 31.7% and value increased by 31.1%. Compared to the same period last year, export volume increased slightly by 0.7%, but value increased sharply by 58.3%.
In the first four months of the year, pepper exports reached 73,647 tons with a turnover of 508.36 million USD. Although output decreased by 11.3% compared to the same period in 2024, thanks to high prices, export value still increased by 44.4%.
The average export price of pepper in the first four months of the year reached 6,903 USD/ton, up 62.7% over the same period last year. In April alone, the price reached 6,968 USD/ton, down slightly by 0.5% compared to March but still 57.1% higher than in April 2024.
The Import-Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade) said that world pepper prices fluctuated a lot in April. After falling in the first half of the month, pepper prices recovered slightly at the end of the month, although they were still lower than at the end of the previous month.
The main reason for the increase in pepper prices is due to the decrease in supply after harvest, combined with the psychology of hoarding goods waiting for prices to increase by growers. Meanwhile, the global consumption market remains stable and maintained at a high level, creating more momentum for domestic pepper prices.
Experts say that if demand from major markets such as the Middle East and Europe increases in the second quarter of 2025, pepper prices may continue to increase.
However, although pepper prices this year are higher than last year, pepper growing areas are unlikely to expand due to lack of land and many farmers have switched to growing crops with higher economic value. Therefore, the possibility of replanting pepper in 2025 will not be high.
