World gold price today
World gold prices increased slightly, with spot gold prices increasing by 28.8 USD to 3,318.8 USD/ounce. Gold futures last traded at 3,347 USD/ounce, up 33 USD compared to early yesterday morning.
World gold prices reversed direction continuously on Thursday, as the market reacted to the data and news of the day. Early this morning (Vietnam time), the price of this precious metal increased, when the latest published data showed that the US labor market is weakening.
The number of Americans filing new claims for unemployment benefits rose more than expected last week, according to data from the U.S. Labor Department. Initial claims for unemployment benefits hit a seasonally adjusted 240,000 in the week ended May 24, well above what economists had forecast.
Independent metals trader Tai Wong said gold's gains in the last trading session were due to a surge in weekly initial jobless claims, indicating a weakening labor market, forcing the US Federal Reserve (Fed) to cut interest rates soon.
According to the minutes of the Fed's May 6-7 policy meeting, Fed officials acknowledged that they may face "difficult decisions" in the coming months, as inflation and unemployment rates both pose increasing risks of recession.

Markets are now awaiting U.S. personal consumption expenditure data due on Friday, which investors will closely analyze for clues about future U.S. monetary policy.
Wong said he was surprised that gold prices continued to rise after the court’s decision to block most of President Donald Trump’s tariffs. The ruling eased concerns in financial markets but also added uncertainty to the global economy, he said. The market seemed to believe that Trump would win his appeal against the trade court ruling, Wong said.
With the domestic gold bar price falling sharply and the world gold price listed at Kitco at 3,318.8 USD/ounce (equivalent to about 104.8 million VND/tael converted according to Vietcombank exchange rate, excluding taxes and fees), the difference between domestic and world gold prices is about 13.2 million VND/tael.
