World gold price today
In the world gold market, the spot gold price was recorded at around 3,407 USD/ounce, up 36 USD/ounce compared to yesterday morning's trading session. Thus, the world gold price this morning surpassed the 3,400 USD/ounce mark and reached the highest price in the past 2 weeks.
Converted at Vietcombank exchange rate, the world gold price is equivalent to about 108.8 million VND/tael, 15 million VND/tael lower than SJC gold bars.
Gold prices jumped in midday trading on Thursday in the US, hitting a two-week high, as the People’s Bank of China continued to add to its gold reserves and short-term technicals tilted to the upside, a sign of a strong recovery in demand for gold in China.
The People’s Bank of China increased its gold reserves in July, marking the ninth consecutive month of purchases, as it seeks to diversify its asset portfolio and reduce its dependence on the US dollar. According to Bloomberg, China has bought about 36 tons of gold since November last year.
Central bank buying, particularly from China, has been seen as one of the main drivers behind the 30% rally in gold prices so far this year, but the pace of buying has slowed as prices remain high.
In addition, in the general market, gold is being affected by many factors such as: unresolved trade tensions between the US and its partners, increasing US government debt due to expansionary fiscal policy, concerns about the independence of the US Federal Reserve (Fed), as well as geopolitical instability in the Middle East and the Russia-Ukraine conflict. In particular, if the US President Donald Trump administration implements a monetary easing policy that weakens the USD, gold prices may break out.
Experts from financial institutions such as Tierra, Goldman Sachs, and UBS predict that the world gold price in August will fluctuate around 3,420 - 3,520 USD/ounce, and may exceed 3,600 USD/ounce if the Fed reduces interest rates or political tensions increase.
