The book “Imprints of the August Revolution of 1945” is the crystallization of authentic historical documents, vivid emotions and profound reflections on a special period of the Vietnamese revolution.

Carefully compiled from sources such as the Complete Party Documents, articles in the Cuu Quoc Newspaper, Su That Newspaper, Doc Lap Newspaper... and memoirs, speeches, and letters from revolutionaries, journalists, intellectuals, and the masses, the book offers a comprehensive, emotional, and epic view of the nation's turbulent historical days.

Not only vividly recreating the major events of the August Revolution and the birth of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, the book also clearly analyzes the reasons for victory and the historical significance of this event.

In the context of the ripe opportunity after the Japanese fascists surrendered to the Allies, the feudal colonial government weakened, under the correct, sharp and creative leadership of the Party, the General Uprising took place quickly, with few losses, demonstrating the strength of national unity, the strong will for independence and the sharp intelligence of the Vietnamese revolution.

The book consists of 2 chapters. Chapter I “Historical Milestones” gathers core documents associated with the General Uprising and the birth of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, such as the Appeal of the Indochinese Communist Party, the Call for General Uprising, Military Order No. 1 of the Uprising Committee, the Proclamation of the Establishment of the Provisional Government and especially the immortal Declaration of Independence drafted by President Ho Chi Minh and read to the entire nation on September 2, 1945 at Ba Dinh Square.

Chapter II “Unforgettable Years” is imbued with memories, reminiscences and narratives, with articles by historical witnesses, revolutionary activists and artists such as Truong Chinh, Vo Nguyen Giap, Tran Huy Lieu, Xuan Thuy, To Hoai, Hong Ha, Nhu Phong…

Stories such as “August Days in Hanoi ”, “Capturing Hue”, “Breaking Ba To Prison”, “Thai Nguyen on the Day of the General Uprising”, “The Battle of Mo Cay”, or touching images in letters sent to martyrs’ relatives… all vividly and intimately depict the image of the country at the moment of entering the era of independence.

From the rally at the Opera House to the scene of “a Vietnamese girl tying up the Japanese enemy alive”, from major battles to activities such as launching literacy movements, famine relief… all appear realistic and touching, like pieces of a puzzle contributing to completing a heroic and humane historical picture.

The book also connects the history of Vietnam's revolution over the past 80 years, from the two long resistance wars to the construction and defense of the Fatherland in the renovation period. Through that, readers not only recognize the historical values that created the August Revolution, but also understand more deeply the stature and contemporary significance of the achievements that our Party, State and people have achieved.

The country is entering a new era - an era with the Party's major strategic orientations aimed at realizing the aspiration to successfully build a socialist Vietnam, a rich people, strong country, democracy, fairness, and civilization.

In that context, the valuable historical lessons from the victory of the August Revolution in 1945 still retain their value and will continue to be an invaluable handbook for the entire Party, people and army to maintain their faith and determination to continue comprehensive innovation to build the country in the era of national development.
