On the morning of October 21, world oil prices continued to decline, Brent oil decreased by 0.28 USD, equivalent to 0.46%, to 61.01 USD/barrel; WTI oil decreased by 0.16 USD, equivalent to 0.28%, to 57.36 USD/barrel.
Concerns about global oversupply amid escalating US-China trade tensions have helped pull oil prices down and maintain their lowest level in nearly half a year. Analysts say the structure of the global crude oil market has shifted from a state of shortage and concerns about supply disruption to an increasingly obvious surplus. The International Energy Agency (IEA) also forecasts that oversupply may increase in the next few years. Accordingly, the recovery of oil prices is becoming more and more difficult.
In addition to supply and demand factors, trade tensions between the world’s two largest economies continue to put pressure on oil prices. The US and China have restarted trade retaliation measures, including imposing port tariffs on cargo ships between the two countries, which could disrupt the global flow of goods in general.

Last week, the Director General of the World Trade Organization (WTO) warned that the decoupling between the two largest economies, the US and China, could reduce global economic output by 7% in the long term and negatively impact energy trade.
But some other news may help limit the decline. Recently, several major US fuel corporations called on the Trump administration to suspend regulations that hinder exports, warning that these measures could lead China and other countries to remove US companies from the global supply chain.
Domestically, forecasts are pointing towards a period of uniform price reduction. Updated to this morning (October 21), retail gasoline prices at the adjustment session this Thursday afternoon (October 23) are estimated by key traders to decrease uniformly. The common reduction is less than 500 VND/liter.
On the morning of October 21, retail discounts on gasoline at some large gas stations fluctuated around VND2,000/liter. This further indicates that retail gasoline prices in the next adjustment period will tend to decrease more./.
