Huawei's Grid Forming Solution to Solve the Challenges of Solar Power Systems

At the conference, Solar end Storage Live Vietnam 2024 Energy Exhibition, Mr. Nguyen Anh Vu, Business Development Director of Huawei Digital Power introduced and shared in depth about the new generation of Grid Forming technology to support solving challenges for solar power systems in Vietnam.

Huawei introduced a new smart solar power (SmartPV) solution at the event.

Solar end Storage Live Vietnam 2024 is the largest renewable energy conference and exhibition in Vietnam, organized to introduce new solutions in renewable energy, promote solar power and energy storage projects to develop more strongly in Vietnam.

At the event, Mr. Nguyen Anh Vu said that Huawei Digital Power has been at the forefront of four global energy transformation trends: De-carbonization, De-centralization, Electrification and Digitalization, to integrate digital technology and power electronics to promote the green energy revolution along the roadmap: high carbon - low carbon - zero carbon. As of 2023, Huawei Digital Power has supported global partners to produce more than 445GW of string inverters, of which the installed capacity in Vietnam is more than 7.5 GW.

Compared to previous storage technologies that mainly rely on grid following, Huawei Digital Power's grid forming technology can increase the proportion of renewable energy fed into the grid by 40%. The solution has three major improvements that increase grid stability, namely the Smart String ESS 2.0 grid forming solution that supports 3 times the rated current overload for 10 seconds, frequency stabilization with 3-20 seconds of virtual inertia, and suppression of medium and high frequency fluctuations (0.1-100 Hz).

Huawei Digital Power has also successfully tested the 2MWh grid-connected solution and achieved impressive results: fast power regulation response with a start-up time of less than 5ms, instantaneous voltage control speed for reactive power response of less than 10ms, and short-circuit power capable of generating 3 times the rated current.

At the event, Huawei Digital Power brought new smart solar power (SmartPV) and energy storage system (ESS) solutions that will be launched this year with 3 main display areas, including: Smart Renewable Energy Generators, 24 hours Smart Green Home Solutions, and Low-carbon Smart Industrial Parks.
