Scene from the movie Liberation of Saigon
Based on the work Saigon - The Epic of writer Hoang Ha, the film Liberation of Saigon by director Long Van begins with the attack to liberate Buon Ma Thuot, forcing the Republic of Vietnam to seek military aid from the United States, while trying to hold Hue and Da Nang; to the battle to capture Dau Giay intersection to capture Xuan Loc, opening the eastern gate to enter Saigon. Next is the artillery attacks that paralyzed Bien Hoa and Tan Son Nhat military airports, to the United States forcing President Nguyen Van Thieu to resign to form a new cabinet headed by Duong Van Minh, to the event of the US military evacuating Saigon by helicopter.
Overshadowing all these events was the plan of the Ho Chi Minh Campaign Command: Enter Saigon with 5 prongs, occupy the 5 most important positions, coordinate with special forces in the city, advance straight into the last stronghold of the Republic of Vietnam, forcing President Duong Van Minh to surrender unconditionally while Saigon remained intact.
Audiences have been waiting to see the movie since very early...
The events were related to dozens of other historical figures such as: General Secretary Le Duan, General Vo Nguyen Giap, General Van Tien Dung, Senior Lieutenant General Tran Van Tra, Lieutenant General Le Trong Tan, Deputy Secretary of the Central Office for Southern Vietnam Muoi Cuc, Standing Member of the Central Office for Southern Vietnam Sau Dan, comrade Le Duc Tho... and historical figures from the Republic of Vietnam, the US Ambassador...
The scenes are like simple strokes but full of value in depicting human life in historical moments. The audience can see the pain in the separation of a Hue mother from her son who decided to flee, can also join in the joy bursting into tears of a wife meeting her husband after the war, or be moved when a communist sister saves her republican brother...
...and capture the moments as memories
Sharing her feelings when watching the movie Liberation of Saigon, Ms. Pham Thi Xuan Dung, a former youth volunteer (born in 1947, Hanoi) said: "The movie recreated the heroic and fierce fighting scenes during the 55-day general offensive to liberate the South. I felt the heroic spirit of a fiery time of the whole nation. In particular, the movie portrayed the spirit, patriotism, intelligence, courage, indomitability and the noble soul of the Vietnamese people."
The Vietnam Film Days program has ended after 6 screenings of 5 typical films on the theme of revolutionary war. The films not only convey to viewers touching images of soldiers and people in the South during the war, but also contribute to arousing historical traditions, promoting patriotism and national pride. It is also a reminder, affirming the historical significance and great value of the Great Victory of Spring 1975, completely liberating the South and reunifying the country./.
