Having just returned after more than a week of treatment at TTH Ha Tinh General Hospital, Ms. Tran Hong Nhung in Thach Quy Ward (Ha Tinh City) still regrets her subjectivity. Being a healthy person and having been vaccinated against the flu, when she had the initial symptoms such as headache, mild cough, mild fever, Ms. Nhung thought she just had a cold, her body was tired due to the extreme weather and she did not go to the doctor but bought medicine to treat herself. After 5 days of taking medicine, although the fever had gone down, her body was weak with chest pain, difficulty breathing and coughing up phlegm.
Due to subjectivity, from an upper respiratory infection, Ms. Nhung contracted pneumonia and had to be hospitalized for treatment.
"When I was too tired, I decided to go to the doctor, and the doctor diagnosed me with pneumonia and ordered me to be hospitalized for treatment. At this point, I suddenly regretted my subjectivity. I also shared with my friends and relatives to hope that everyone would raise their vigilance and not ignore any symptoms. In particular, they must listen to their bodies to promptly examine and treat them."
According to doctors, patients are often subjective when suffering from upper respiratory tract infections with symptoms of cough, runny nose, sore throat and often self-treat. However, in cases with weak resistance, incorrect treatment, the disease can last, worsen, spread to the lower respiratory tract and cause serious complications such as pneumonia or bronchial asthma... Some respiratory diseases, although simple, are not easy to treat, because patients abuse drugs, use antibiotics indiscriminately leading to drug resistance. Therefore, when there are signs of prolonged or severe upper respiratory tract infections, it is necessary to see a doctor for timely diagnosis and treatment.

Also subjective with the symptoms of the common cold, Ms. Nguyen Thi Nguyet in Thach Linh ward (Ha Tinh city) had to be hospitalized for treatment at the Department of Infectious Diseases, Provincial General Hospital. After being examined, she was diagnosed with influenza A, non-specific pneumonia, chronic pharyngitis, gastric reflux... "The reason was that I had influenza A but did not know how to self-treat with cold medicine. After more than 1 week, when my body was weak, I went to the doctor and realized that I was too subjective. 8 days of antibiotic treatment in the hospital taught me a profound lesson. Currently, the COVID-19 epidemic is at risk of re-emerging, I hope that everyone will raise their vigilance because every small manifestation can be a warning from the body" - Ms. Nguyet shared.
Lower respiratory diseases such as pneumonia, bronchitis, asthma, even tuberculosis... often start with very mild symptoms: cough, fever, stuffy nose, sore throat. This "flu-like" feeling makes many people ignore it, leading to late treatment, increasing the risk of complications. The fear of going to the hospital or thinking that you can treat yourself at home is the reason why the condition gets worse. And in fact, many patients have to take high doses of antibiotics for a long time before the disease subsides.
Subjectivity makes people susceptible to lower respiratory diseases due to upper respiratory infections.
Doctor Hoang Viet Cuong - Head of the Department of Infectious Diseases, Provincial General Hospital said: "The peak of the flu epidemic has passed, but the weather is still quite extreme, the risk of lower respiratory diseases due to upper respiratory infections is not zero, so people need to listen to their bodies more carefully and should not self-diagnose or self-treat. In particular, in addition to common respiratory diseases, subjectivity is even more alarming in the context of the COVID-19 epidemic re-emerging in many countries in the region, especially Thailand".
Since the beginning of the year, the Department of Infectious Diseases - Ha Tinh Provincial General Hospital has received about 10 COVID-19 patients, 27 other provinces and cities have also recorded 148 cases and no deaths. Our country has not recorded any concentrated outbreaks, only a slight increase in the past 3 weeks with an average of 20 cases/week. However, in the new developments of the epidemic in many countries, as a province with Cau Treo international border gate and beach tourism in season, Ha Tinh is also facing the risk of COVID-19 spreading. And it is very possible that people's subjectivity will create "gaps" for complications of COVID-19 to attack. Especially when the variant of COVID-19 this time has been identified to have appeared since 2023, there is no evidence that this variant causes serious symptoms and there are no new warnings for COVID-19 globally.

According to the US National Institutes of Health , the main symptoms of the current COVID-19 outbreak include: high fever, cough, conjunctivitis (with itchy eyes), sore throat, runny nose, stuffy nose, fatigue, body aches, headache... "If there are any symptoms, people need to go to the doctor to be detected and treated properly because complications from COVID-19 are not only respiratory diseases but also many other dangerous diseases" - Dr. Hoang Viet Cuong recommended.
A subjective person can pay with his own lungs. A subjective community can pay with a new wave of the epidemic. Being alert and proactive in preventing and protecting personal health is the responsibility of every citizen. Subjectivity should not become a "gap" that allows diseases to silently attack the body, even the whole community, especially during times when dangerous infectious diseases such as influenza A, influenza B, measles, COVID-19, dengue fever, etc. occur.
