According to the report of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, in recent years, the volume of domestic solid waste in the city has increased rapidly due to population growth and urbanization. Currently, on average, the whole city generates about 2,010 tons of domestic solid waste per day.
Of which, urban areas generate about 1,030 tons/day, which are collected, transported and treated at two sanitary treatment areas, Trang Cat and Dinh Vu. Rural areas generate about 980 tons/day, of which about 970 tons are collected and treated, with about 850 tons/day being treated hygienically. The remainder is treated at 67 temporary landfills in rural areas, mainly by simple burial, which do not meet technical and environmental standards.
At the meeting, the Department of Agriculture and Environment proposed to continue to improve the mechanism and policies for solid waste management; at the same time, strengthen propaganda andeducation to raise awareness and responsibility of Party committees and authorities at all levels, especially the role of leaders in classifying domestic solid waste at source. In addition, it is necessary to improve the capacity, effectiveness and efficiency in the work of classifying, collecting, transporting and treating solid waste in the area.
Through the report and comments of the members of the Supervisory Delegation, Comrade Pham Van Khanh, Head of the Urban Committee of the City People's Council, acknowledged the positive changes in the classification and management of domestic solid waste according to the Law on Environmental Protection 2020. This clearly demonstrates the responsibility of the State management agency, the participation of public service units and the community.
However, he also noted that solid waste management in the area still faces many difficulties and problems. The Department of Agriculture and Environment needs to specifically assess the activities of public service units and private enterprises in the collection, transportation and treatment of waste; at the same time, strengthen inspection, examination and assessment of the responsibilities of local authorities and relevant units in State management as well as the collection, transportation and treatment of domestic solid waste.
The monitoring delegation received the Department's proposals and recommendations to synthesize into a general report submitted to the City People's Council, and at the same time proposed solutions to ensure consistent direction in environmental sanitation work, especially the classification of domestic solid waste at source./.
