Hai Phong Education strengthens international cooperation activities

Expanding international cooperation and integration in education is one of the key tasks that the Hai Phong education and training sector has focused on implementing in recent times. As part of a series of international cooperation activities, on August 12, 2025, a meeting took place between the leaders of the Department of Education and Training (DOET) and the Yeongam District Education Office (Korea). On the Korean side, there was Mr. Kim Kwang Soo - Head of Yeongam District Office and experts and teachers. Welcoming and working with the delegation were Director of the DOET Luong Van Viet and representatives of the Department of Foreign Affairs, the City Police and leaders of professional departments of the DOET.

One of the important contents of Resolution No. 45-NQ/TW dated January 24, 2019 of the Politburo is to set the goal of Hai Phong becoming an international center for education and training . With the role, position, potential and attraction of a large city directly under the Central Government , Hai Phong has been making efforts to strengthen integration with many effective activities and forms. Promoting the mechanism to attract international investors, proactively linking training with domestic and foreign educational institutions on education to create high-quality human resources; studying and transferring educational technology - training on management, methods, programs, and curriculum of foreign educational institutions that have been inspected to be suitable for the city's education and training . Actively researching and proposing programs and plans to exchange teachers, lecturers, students with countries with advanced education and training levels; has a practical economic and social relationship with the city . The above integration and cooperation activities have brought many good results, gradually creating a solid momentum for Hai Phong education to reach international level.

For Korea in particular, educational cooperation activities have been strongly promoted in recent times, especially since 2021 after the City People's Committee signed a memorandum of understanding with the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Vietnam on promoting educational and cultural exchanges in Hai Phong. The city is the first locality in the country to implement the program. Korean language teaching as a first foreign language in high school. After that 1 Pilot year, the scale is significantly expanded, by the end of the 2024-2025 school year: Korean is the first foreign language to be implemented Declared in 13 schools with 29 classes, 1,354 students; as a second foreign language in 12 schools with 36 classes, 1,698 students; operating as a club model in 7 schools with 26 classes, 985 students. Japanese is taught at 02 high schools (04 classes, 168 students). students) and 05 secondary schools (31 classes, 1,276 students). With the support of the Representative Office of the Korean Education Department in Vietnam - Korean Embassy in Vietnam, the Korean side sent teachers to teach and provide documents and textbooks serving the teaching and learning of Korean for general education institutions teaching Foreign Language 1, 2 Korean in the city. In addition, many cultural exchange programs and activities to promote the movement of learning Korean are organized in schools and have attracted a large number of students to participate .

At the request of the Korean Overseas Education Office in Vietnam , with the approval of the Hai Phong City People's Committee, the Department of Education and Training welcomed and worked with the Yeongam District Education Office. At the meeting, Mr. Kim Kwang Soo - Head of the Office Yeongam district introduced the characteristics of the situation and strategic orientation of Yeongam education , on that basis, proposed exchange activities for students and teachers of the two localities. Comrade Luong Van Viet - Director of Hai Phong Department of Education and Training expressed his joy in welcoming the delegation, and informed the delegation about the scale and development of Hai Phong education. The Director of the Department affirmed the strategy of expanding training cooperation, in which special attention is paid to cooperation with Korea to meet the practical needs of the city's people. Currently, in the general education sector, the number of students accessing the Korean language is more than 4,000 and is expected to increase rapidly in the coming time. According to the arrangement of the Department of Education and Training, the Yeongam district education delegation had an exchange with students and teachers at Da Nang Secondary School. After that, they will continue to implement specific cooperation activities in many forms to enhance and improve the quality of education of the two localities.
