Convenient transportation - "springboard" for tourism development

(PLVN) - The 5-day holiday, coinciding with a major national holiday, has created a strong driving force to boost tourism demand across the country, helping many localities record revenues of up to thousands of billions of VND. Notably, the important role of the transportation system has contributed to the impressive growth figures of the tourism industry in recent days.

Meet the increasing demand for travel and sightseeing

In order to meet the increasing travel and sightseeing needs of people during the holidays, preparations for transport infrastructure and services have been focused on by all levels and sectors.

From early on, under the timely direction of the leaders of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, passenger transport services and operations during the holidays were stable, continuous, and smooth, basically meeting the travel needs of people and tourists. Major airlines have proactively increased the number of flights by about 20%, especially at night, to reduce peak hours and meet passenger demand. Optimizing operations have also been implemented, such as increasing the seat utilization rate on flights, extending operating hours, and shortening aircraft turnaround times. From April 29 to May 4, the entire airport network nationwide had more than 12,600 takeoffs and landings, an increase of more than 19% over the same period last year.

Besides the aviation industry, the railway industry has also made flexible adjustments to serve the travel needs of people and tourists, such as proactively planning to increase trains, selling train tickets very early, preparing locomotives, carriages, arranging human resources to serve at stations as well as trains, etc.

With the highway system being increasingly expanded and improved, road travel continues to be the preferred choice of the majority of people. During the past 5-day holiday, the highways managed by the Vietnam Expressway Corporation (VEC) served over 1.52 million vehicles.

Removing traffic "bottlenecks" that hinder tourism development

Transport activities and passenger transport management have been synchronously enhanced in all three areas: road, rail and aviation, which have shown remarkable effectiveness, contributing to ensuring smooth and safe traffic and improving service quality, well serving people's travel needs during the holidays. Many experts assess that the reasonable and effective organization of transport in all three types plays an important role in creating impressive growth figures for the tourism industry. This practice continues to affirm that a convenient transport system is a "springboard" for tourism development.

However, in many localities, incomplete and unsynchronized transport infrastructure and passenger transport services have become one of the "bottlenecks" hindering tourism development. Faced with this situation, in recent years, the State has focused on removing the "bottlenecks" by increasing investment in transport infrastructure and upgrading passenger transport services, gradually creating an effective transport network, contributing to promoting sustainable tourism development.

For example, a series of expressway projects have been implemented, such as the North-South Expressway, which has “redrawn” the map of the tourism market, turning many distant points into near ones. At the same time, many important railway projects have also been accelerated, such as the Lao Cai - Hanoi - Hai Phong route, as well as aiming to soon start construction of the North-South high-speed railway super project. Major airports such as Tan Son Nhat, Noi Bai, Cam Ranh have also been upgraded and expanded,...

It can be seen that all the above projects have been gradually forming a modern, synchronous and convenient transportation system, becoming a solid foundation for socio -economic development in general and the tourism industry in particular. At the same time, the construction, upgrading and expansion of the transportation system also creates favorable conditions to attract investment resources, effectively promote tourism projects, as well as open up new, attractive and potential tourist routes, meeting the increasing needs of domestic and foreign tourists.

In addition to the results of the preparation work on traffic infrastructure and services, the work of ensuring traffic order and safety in the past 5 days was basically well ensured. Mr. Le Kim Thanh - Vice Chairman of the National Traffic Safety Committee assessed that thanks to the attention and direction of Party committees at all levels, authorities, ministries, branches and localities; the early preparation, serious and effective implementation of functional forces, traffic order and safety during the 5-day holiday were basically well ensured; traffic accidents decreased significantly compared to last year, no particularly serious traffic accidents occurred.
