According to Mr. Kien, Education is not just about imparting knowledge, but also about sowing hope, building trust, and awakening aspirations in each student.
But to do that in today’s era with a generation of students dubbed the “anxious generation”, teachers need to innovate. Innovation is not just a slogan, but a real revolution, and teachers must be pioneers.
The teacher pointed out the context, we are living in an era where attention has become the most precious resource. Students are surrounded by countless attractive content from social networks, short videos , video games, AI content generation... Teachers are no longer the only source of information or reference.

Therefore, education must not only compete with ignorance, but also with TikTok, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram and especially ChatGPT or AI chat bots in general. "If the lecture is not attractive enough, if the teaching method is not engaging enough, the student's mind will "leave the classroom" even when sitting in class," Mr. Kien emphasized.
In the 2018 General Education Program, education has innovated, transforming from passive teaching to capacity development, from imparting knowledge to stimulating thinking; from one-way teaching to multi-dimensional interaction.
According to Mr. Kien, high-tech tools, especially artificial intelligence... are opening up unprecedented opportunities. But if teachers only use them for illustration, or abuse them to create general lessons that lack personalization and put the learner at the center, then it is only a change in form, not a change in thinking.
Therefore, the male teacher believes that the role of teachers in the AI era also needs to change.
"Today, students can ask AI anything: from solving math problems, writing essays, to analyzing geographical phenomena. So teachers are no longer the ones who provide knowledge, but the ones who guide learning.
For example, in a real classroom, when a student feels frustrated because he/she does not understand the lesson or has psychological instability, the teacher can recognize it through the student's facial expression, voice, and attitude.
Teachers can adjust their teaching style, offer words of encouragement, or even tell an inspirational story to help students regain their spirits. AI, no matter how smart, cannot replace this emotional interaction.
In addition, teachers also play the role of classroom management, handling situations that arise such as conflicts between students, creating a positive, healthy learning environment, and promoting creativity. These are also things that AI cannot do yet.
So, AI can be a powerful support tool, but the teacher is still the heart of the classroom.
A story about student frustration
Teacher Le Trung Kien said that recently, he gave career advice to a student who was going to grade 12 this year. When the teacher asked what his future career aspirations were, the student said he didn't know what to do because he had been studying drawing for many years and wanted to pursue Digital Art, but not long ago he was able to experiment with using AI to create drawings.
I realized that AI drew too beautifully and too quickly, making it impossible for me to compete. I was very sad and discouraged because I had never decided on another direction. I encouraged, shared and advised that: AI can draw beautifully, can imitate very well but AI cannot create a painting style. AI can imitate the style of Van Gogh, Picasso,... but cannot create such a school of painting.
"I encouraged him to continue pursuing his dream path and consider additional options for himself. The student then became confident with his choice. Besides Digital Fine Arts, he also chose Psychology as his second major," said Mr. Kien.
From the student's story, the teacher believes that teachers in the new era need to: understand how AI works, identify false information; develop critical thinking, emotions, and ethics for students; combine artificial intelligence with human intelligence to create hybrid intelligence - where technology and humanity develop together, supporting learners.
A good teacher not only knows a lot, but also knows how to make students want to learn. They teach not only the “what”, but also the “why” and the “how”.
However, innovation is not easy. Sometimes, teachers make mistakes, typically: abusing technology, lacking pedagogical orientation; becoming lazy.
From a teacher’s perspective, Mr. Kien shared that teachers are under pressure from achievements, from society, and from the rapid changes in technology. Without proper support, they will be left behind.
"The change in role also causes a large number of teachers to face disrespect from a group of people in society, a group of students, and parents when they no longer appreciate the role and image of teachers. Therefore, in addition to proactively reforming themselves, teachers also need understanding, sharing, and companionship from management agencies at all levels as well as parents and the social community," the teacher said.
Mr. Le Trung Kien, English teacher, Le Loi High School, Ha Dong (Hanoi). The teacher received many achievements in teaching such as: First prize for excellent teacher in Ha Dong district cluster; Second prize for excellent teacher in Hanoi city level; guided students in scientific research to win national prizes.
