Correct policy, people agree
The Politburo has just issued Resolution No. 71-NQ/TW on breakthroughs in education and training development, which clearly states the requirement to review and evaluate the implementation of the General Education Program, ensuring the provision of a unified set of textbooks nationwide. In addition, the Resolution also sets the goal of providing free textbooks to all students by 2030.
Regarding this policy, administrators, teachers and parents in Son La expressed their agreement. In fact, for many years, the use of many different sets of textbooks by schools has caused a lack of uniformity, making it difficult for students to transfer schools, and causing waste when books cannot be reused.
Mr. Dinh Van Thien, Cao Da 1 village, Bac Yen commune, shared: “Personally, I completely agree. There needs to be a unified set of textbooks for students nationwide, and they should not be changed frequently to reduce costs for parents to raise their children to study.”
In the 2025-2026 school year, Son La will have 609 educational institutions from kindergarten to high school, with nearly 380,000 students. Every year, parents have to spend a lot of money on textbooks and learning materials. Mr. Mui Van Khoa, Ta Hoc commune, said: "For people in especially difficult and low-income highland areas, buying many types of textbooks and other contributions is a real burden."
Teacher Le Thi Dieu Linh, Chieng Sinh Primary School, said: “When students lost their textbooks due to floods, the units and organizations that supported the books often did not match the textbooks that the students were studying, so they could not use them. Therefore, a unified set of textbooks is needed to save money and be consistent.”

Unified textbooks create an even foundation
From the above shortcomings, the policy of a unified set of textbooks is considered to be suitable for practice. Mr. Nguyen Van Chien, Director of the Department of Education and Training of Son La, emphasized: "Building a unified set of textbooks is a policy suitable for current requirements. This is not only about consistency in content, but also an important foundation for improving the quality of education in schools".
According to Mr. Chien, the unified textbook set needs to be compiled on the basis of selecting and referring to the quintessence of current textbook sets, both ensuring comprehensiveness and avoiding waste. When there is unity, teacher training, teaching organization, testing and evaluation will also be more convenient. In particular, students in remote, isolated or urban areas will have equal learning opportunities, contributing to reducing the gap between regions.
“With a common set of textbooks, ethnic minority students in mountainous areas or students in the city have the same knowledge base. This contributes to improving the quality of human resources for society,” said Mr. Chien.

New Resolution – an important milestone
Not only does it create fairness for students, a unified set of textbooks also helps teachers to be more convenient in teaching. Mr. Dang Van Hieu, Director of Mai Son Commune Continuing Education Center, commented: "Having a unified set of textbooks will create standard documents, helping teachers easily share experiences, saving time in getting acquainted with many different sets of books to focus on professional development."
For parents, especially in disadvantaged areas, the cost of buying textbooks each school year is a significant amount. When they can reuse old books, they will have less of a burden. At the same time, students who transfer schools or migrate with their families will no longer face obstacles due to different sets of books.
This policy is considered by experts as a necessary step to improve quality, fairness and consistency in the education system.
Resolution No. 71-NQ/TW of the Politburo is not only a directive document, but also a milestone demonstrating the determination to put education in the position of "top national policy". Unifying a set of textbooks nationwide not only solves the current situation of dispersion and lack of uniformity, but also ensures flexibility when it is still possible to supplement local content suitable to teaching reality.
With the consensus of the people and teachers, the implementation of a unified set of textbooks will be a fundamental, long-term solution, contributing to improving the quality of education, reducing the burden on parents, and at the same time creating a fair foundation of knowledge for all students across the country.
