Applying technology to promote self-study of English
Bach Lieu Secondary School (Yen Thanh Commune, Nghe An) is one of the outstanding collectives in implementing the movement "Self-study English Month" in 2025 launched by the Department of Education and Training of Nghe An.
Accordingly, the English Self-Study Month in Nghe An province was implemented from June to August, right at the time when final year students were reviewing for exams, while other grades were on summer vacation. However, Bach Lieu Secondary School has implemented many practical activities to improve students' English skills. Because they cannot go to school directly, the activities are mainly implemented online.

Teachers have encouraged students to actively practice listening, speaking, reading and writing skills through English clubs, presentations, dramatizations and online competitions.
Thanks to that, it has created a vibrant, enthusiastic and serious learning atmosphere for the students of the school. In addition to the school, many students of Bach Lieu Secondary School were honored to receive certificates of merit and awards at the provincial closing ceremony. According to Mr. Nguyen Phuc Loc - Principal, the results of the English self-study month are the motivation for teachers and students to continue to make efforts, build a positive foreign language learning environment, contributing to improving the quality of comprehensive education.
In fact, training and forming self-study awareness is an important content that schools have created for students in all subjects. Especially after Circular 29 was issued, stopping extra teaching and learning with fees in schools. In that context, students must break away from passive learning, where teachers "hold their hands and show them how to do things". Instead, teachers are the ones who guide and inspire students to learn knowledge, providing reliable learning resources for students to study at home. During that process, teachers and students do not lose connection, but can regularly exchange via Facebook groups, Zalo, or study online through online software.
Mr. Nguyen Tien Dung - Head of Secondary Education Department, Nghe An Department of Education and Training assessed: The English Self-Study Month attracted 491 junior high and high schools to register to participate. Of which, more than 174,000 students registered to participate (reaching 56.65% of the total number of students in the province); nearly 10,000 teachers registered to participate (reaching 66.49% of the total number of teachers in the province).
During the learning process, nearly 50,000 students passed the English proficiency test, reaching 87.21% of the total number of registered students. The number of students participating in courses across the province was 37,000, reaching 74.14% of the total number of students completing the English proficiency test.
Promoting the effectiveness of English Self-Study Month, Nghe An Education Department continues to launch English Self-Study Month and has plans to diversify forms and lively English learning environments such as Clubs in schools, surveying and competing in clusters, and competing in separate skills. Thereby creating passion for approaching English so that students can confidently study well, creating excitement for students in the learning process.
Make English a Second Language
Teacher Ho Thi Ngoc Diep (born in 1997) is the youngest female teacher to receive the title of excellent teacher of English at the Nghe An provincial level in 2024. Previously, when assigned to teach at Vinh Tan Secondary School (Vinh, Nghe An), although located in an urban area, the general English ability of students is limited. Many students are children of self-employed workers, lacking attention and care from their families. Teacher Ngoc Diep believes that, depending on the characteristics of each student of the school and each class, teachers must be the ones to change the teaching method to suit.
Teacher Ngoc Diep constantly improves her expertise such as completing a master's program, registering for the IELTS exam to renew herself. But for students, she allows them to choose the most basic level of knowledge and skills, closely following the program so that they can absorb it. At the same time, she applies new methods, applying AI to design lessons and learning activities in class to create excitement for students.

According to Mr. Thai Van Thanh - Director of the Department of Education and Training of Nghe An, foreign language proficiency not only determines the learning and employment opportunities of each individual, but also contributes to improving the competitiveness of the locality and the country in the era of globalization.
Nghe An Education Department is implementing Resolution 91 of the Politburo to make English the second language in schools; Resolution 71 on breakthrough solutions in education and training; the quartet of Resolutions 57, 59, 66, 68 to build high-quality human resources, meeting the rising era in the new era. Therefore, to improve national and international competitiveness, it is necessary to have a solid foundation in English. Those who have good English knowledge will have the opportunity to access newer knowledge and technology, so international cooperation will also be more favorable.
Thereby, gradually making English the second language in schools in Nghe An province. With new technology, it also creates favorable conditions for students from different regions to access the same knowledge base, forming self-study skills for everyone, practicing the 4 skills of listening - speaking - reading - writing English fluently.
Entering the new school year, the Department of Education and Training of Nghe An advised the Provincial People's Committee on the Project to Improve Foreign Language Proficiency, Making English the Second Language in Schools, 2025 - 2035 period. To do so, Nghe An province will also have specific mechanisms and policies to improve the quality of the teaching staff, invest in facilities and teaching equipment for schools, and students to access a better English learning environment. The sector will also conduct a large-scale survey of 5th and 9th grade students on the basis of cooperation with reputable foreign language centers so that students can study and develop according to their strengths and interests, individualizing each student.
According to Mr. Thai Van Thanh - Director of Nghe An Department of Education and Training, with many requirements in the new period, Nghe An education sector deploys models, technological solutions and internationalizes English learning. Especially online learning solutions, AI applications and personalization according to capacity.
