The event was hosted by the Department of Science and Technology of Ho Chi Minh City, in coordination with the Ho Chi Minh City National University, the Department of Education and Training, the City Youth Union, the Ho Chi Minh City Information Technology Association and the Center for Youth Science and Technology Development. This is a large-scale academic playground, encouraging students to research and apply artificial intelligence (AI) in learning, life and production.
This year, the contest recorded 3,954 contestants from 797 teams from 194 units of 63 high schools in the city and some other provinces and cities participating. From the preliminary round, the Jury selected the 80 best teams to enter the final round.
Mr. Vo Minh Thanh, Deputy Director of the Department of Science and Technology of Ho Chi Minh City (Head of the Organizing Committee of the Contest) emphasized: “Ho Chi Minh City is striving to realize the goal of becoming a smart city, in which AI plays a key role. Attracting and developing high-quality AI human resources is the city's top priority. The AI Challenge is a meaningful scientific playground, a place to nurture talent, nurture passion and inspire the creativity of the young generation”.

The theme of this year's competition is "Virtual assistant supporting information retrieval from large multimedia data warehouses", built according to the format of two international competitions Lifelog Search Challenge (LSC) and Video Browser Showdown (VBS).

Teams develop tools, software, or AI systems to handle 30 queries in four formats: Find videos from text descriptions (Textual KIS), find videos from a short video clip (Video KIS), find videos and answer questions (Q&A), and find and align event moments together (TRAKE). Each team has 5 minutes for each query, and points are calculated based on accuracy, reliability, and speed of completion.
According to Mr. Thanh, this year's products and solutions demonstrate multidisciplinary research thinking, combining many core AI technologies such as platform language models, multi-modal search, intelligent reasoning and interaction capabilities, factors that are shaping Vietnam's new generation of technology.

Over the past 5 seasons, the AI Challenge has attracted over 9,000 contestants, affirming the strong influence of the movement of researching, learning and applying artificial intelligence. The contest continues to be an important foundation contributing to the development of high-quality human resources and realizing the goal of building Ho Chi Minh City into a smart city and a leading innovation center in the country.
