According to records, in the flood-prone area of Dong Xuan commune, garbage was everywhere, densely packed on the roads. Along the roads, people were busy cleaning their houses and drying out items left behind by the floodwaters. Police, soldiers and youth union members shared in supporting each residential area, urgently clearing sewers, collecting garbage, water hyacinths and scattered trees.

At Xuan Son Nam Kindergarten (Dong Xuan Commune), the flood receded, leaving behind a layer of trash, mud, and rotten trees covering the schoolyard. In the classrooms, the mud accumulated in thick layers. Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Lien, Principal, said: “All the water hyacinth and trash from the upper reaches of the Ky Lo River flooded back, flooding the entire campus. Thanks to proactive prevention work, the school was only flooded and suffered minor damage. This morning, as the water receded, the school mobilized all staff, teachers, and local forces to clean up and spray disinfectant in time to welcome the children back to class on Monday.”

According to Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Tien, Vice Chairman of Dong Xuan Commune People's Committee, the area is a low-lying area, floodwaters flooded the entire commune, 19/20 villages were flooded, 10 villages were completely flooded. Thanks to proactive response and timely evacuation of people to safe places, more than 8,000 people in the commune are still safe. However, people's property was greatly damaged. "The government is mobilizing all police, army and militia forces to help people overcome the consequences and stabilize their lives soon. In particular, we prioritize education , so we mobilize forces to support schools in cleaning to promptly teach and learn for students in the area," said Mr. Tien.

Up in Phu Mo commune (Dak Lak province), Phu Mo Primary School was one of the places most severely damaged by the storm. The rear wall collapsed more than 20 meters, glass doors were broken, tables and chairs were swept away by water, and mud flooded the classrooms. More than 30 cadres, teachers, military forces, and local people were busy cleaning each room. Principal Le Manh Hoa said that although teaching equipment had been moved to higher ground to avoid water, the flood came too quickly, and all computers and teaching aids were damaged beyond repair. For now, the school will temporarily fix the problem to ensure a place for students to study, and then consider a long-term recovery plan.

According to a quick report from the Department of Education and Training of Dak Lak province, as of November 8, the whole province had 226 educational establishments affected by storm No. 13, with total estimated damage of nearly 22.8 billion VND. Of which, 38 units under the department suffered damage of about 4.97 billion VND.

Ms. Le Thi Thanh Xuan, Director of the Department of Education and Training of Dak Lak province, said that she has asked schools to urgently clean and sanitize classrooms. By November 10, schools will basically complete cleaning and repair minor damage so that students can return to school safely. For schools with heavy damage, the department will report to the province to request emergency support and have a temporary learning plan.
