New peanut variety has a good harvest, Nghi Xuan farmers are excited

(Baohatinh.vn) - These days, farmers in Xuan My commune (Nghi Xuan, Ha Tinh) are excited to "brave the sun" and go to the fields to harvest spring peanuts with a new variety with outstanding productivity.

Xuan My commune has more than 120 hectares of spring peanut production area - the largest in Nghi Xuan district. This is a coastal sandy land area with a suitable climate, favorable for peanut growth and development.

In the spring crop of 2025, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Nghi Xuan district cooperated with the Center for Research and Development of Beans - under the Vietnam Institute of Food Crops to build a demonstration model of the new peanut variety LCHX03 on an area of ​​2 hectares in Thuan My village (Xuan My commune).

These days, farmers in Xuan My commune are mobilizing labor to go to the fields to harvest spring peanuts.

Mr. Tran Van Thanh (Thuan My village) said: "This year I planted 17 sao of spring peanuts, of which 13 sao used the old peanut variety L14 and 4 sao used the new peanut variety LCHX03. In general, the weather this year was unfavorable, with many prolonged rains affecting the crop schedule as well as the growth process of the plants. Therefore, the yield of L14 peanuts only reached an average of 1.6 quintals/sao. The new peanut variety had a good harvest, yielding 2 quintals/sao.

Farmers "brave the sun" to speed up the peanut harvest.

Also using the new peanut variety LCHX03, this spring crop, Mrs. Phan Thi Anh's family (Thuan My village) sowed on an area of ​​nearly 2 sao. " With the model supporting 100% of the peanut variety LCHX03, I focused on investing in care, the plants grew well, and produced uniform tubers. This is a high-quality peanut variety with high yield, so I will save it as seed for the next peanut crop " - Mrs. Anh shared.

Through the process of planting and caring, people believe that the LCHX03 peanut variety has many advantages, especially healthy growth, few pests and diseases, resistance to harsh weather, and an average of 20 - 25 tubers/tree.

Through evaluation, the yield of peanut variety LCHX03 is estimated at 4 tons/ha, 20% higher than the variety L14 being mass produced locally.

Ms. Tran Thi Hieu - Vice Chairman of Xuan My Commune People's Committee said: " The experimental model of producing LCHX03 peanut variety has high productivity and yield, suitable for farming conditions in Xuan My commune, especially the ability to withstand weather conditions such as drought, flooding... Currently, farmers have harvested more than 60% of the area".

“ From the initial effectiveness, the local government is stepping up propaganda, encouraging farmers in the whole commune to use this new peanut variety in production to replace the old peanut variety that shows signs of degeneration and disease… ” – Ms. Hieu said.
