It was called a turning point because before that, I had applied for a job at another agency in the same field as my major. But on the way back, I don’t know why I turned to the Quang Tri Newspaper office to apply for a trial job with the thought of only working for a while and then thinking about the next step. However, I didn’t think about anything when I was absorbed in new and challenging articles, and then the random turning point became the official path that led me to work, to journalism.
Although I am not the first generation of reporters of Quang Tri Newspaper, I am fortunate to work with the brothers and sisters of the "golden generation" of the newspaper. Stepping in here, immersing myself in the enthusiasm of my predecessors, I have nurtured my passion and desire for the profession. I learned the profession from dedicated, strict but loving reporters and editors. They taught me how to ask the right questions, how to listen to the people, how to choose the important details to write a touching article.
I still remember the first days of my career, writing articles on a piece of paper, scratching out and erasing them all over, then copying them out in the most careful handwriting possible to send to the editorial office. Every time an article was approved and published, I was filled with joy, and I told my friends about it endlessly.
There were also many times when the articles were returned, accompanied by frank warnings: the articles “lacked life”, “lacked quality”, “lacked depth of information”. And there were also times when the news stories were “corrected”.
Times like that helped me look back at myself, learn to observe more deeply, listen more carefully and most importantly, put myself in the reader's shoes to write. I gradually became more mature from the field trips in the hot Lao wind and sun, from the hastily written news during the stormy season and the times of cutting and editing each sentence and each word to make the article more polished.
Each generation of cadres and reporters keeps their own memories of the common “home” called Quang Tri Newspaper. I am no exception. There, we were able to devote ourselves to our work with all our faith and love for the profession and were trained in the revolutionary journalism environment. Everyone struggled with reality to produce quality works, because behind each article is not only an information product but also the crystallization of enthusiasm, responsibility and love for the homeland.
It is a great pride to witness Quang Tri Newspaper becoming more modern, more widely spread, becoming a familiar brand to readers in the province and the Quang Tri community living far from home. In recent years, the newspaper's team of reporters and editors have not only mastered technology but also continued to affirm their skills through many in-depth journalistic works that leave a clear mark. Many series of investigative articles, reflections, and reports have been recognized at provincial, national and specialized press awards organized by the central government.
From the rushing flow of news to the pages that touch on life and human destiny, the responsibility and passion of reporters are all embedded in them. From the initial immaturity, over time, everyone gradually becomes more steadfast and courageous. Everyone shares the pride of contributing their small efforts to bring the newspaper closer to readers; together building a united and cohesive collective.
With the policy of merging provincial administrative boundaries and press agencies, the name of Quang Tri Newspaper will be changed. But deep in the mind of every cadre and reporter, we believe that the identity, spirit and responsibility of journalists will continue to be spread in a new, modern form that is more suitable for the digital age. However, the unnamed feelings in our memories keep surging. Entering a new phase, we continue to nurture our belief in a modern, local press that is close to the people and has a strong identity.
This transformation is not only a change in structure but also an opportunity to make journalism more effective and professional - something that generations of staff and reporters of Quang Tri Newspaper have worked hard to cultivate for so long. Everyone is determined that the task ahead will be more difficult. The road ahead will be more arduous. Knowing this, everyone is determined to complete it, as a promise to the newspaper to which they have been attached, devoted and reaped sweet fruits.
Going through a new journey, we have learned something that seems very simple, that is, only when we are attached can we feel love; only when we are attached can we feel responsibility. Responsibility, for journalists, is a sustainable concept; only when we have responsibility, can we contribute to improving the quality of the newspaper and building an increasingly strong collective.
Therefore, we will carry this responsibility for the new journey in our career, following our profession. So that when we remember, in the heart of each cadre and reporter, there is still full of pride for a newspaper that used to be called: Quang Tri Newspaper - the place that has given us the flame of our profession to shine forever!
