Coach Peter Cklamovski remains calm in the face of the turmoil in Malaysian football. |
After the 3-0 victory over Laos in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers on the evening of October 9, the Australian strategist had emotional words - not only to defend the team, but also to affirm their dignity.
“Our boys are professionals,” said coach Cklamovski after the game. “They gave everything to win and showed good sportsmanship . But tonight I really felt for them. No matter how hard I tried to hide it, the feeling of being ‘invalid’ and not having the chance to go further definitely weighed on their minds.”
FIFA has declared Malaysia guilty of falsifying naturalization documents, resulting in seven players being banned from playing and the 4-0 win over Vietnam being reviewed. With their reputation severely damaged, the performance against Laos – despite being a weak opponent – was more about morale than technical skill.
Coach Cklamovski understands that: “I don’t want to be in the players’ situation… but they still go out on the pitch, fight for the badge on their chest. That deserves respect. And the fans who are in the stands – they are the reason we still have faith.”
Victory cannot erase the humiliation that Malaysian football is carrying, but on a dark night in Vientiane, at least “Harimau Malaya” still showed that they have not lost their self-respect - and still know how to fight for their honor.
