Helping people escape poverty with Bat Do bamboo shoots

In previous years, the poverty rate in Ba Cau village was still high. Faced with that reality, Mr. De wondered how to help the people in general and members of the Village Veterans Association escape poverty quickly and sustainably. He thought that he had to boldly convert short-term crop varieties with high productivity, creating an early source of income to help people as well as members have income and reduce poverty.

Thinking is doing, in 2021, Mr. De connected with Mr. Sung A Vu, formerly the head of Khe Ron village, Hong Ca commune, Tran Yen district (old) and Phuong Vi Green Agriculture Company Limited to bring 15,000 Bat Do bamboo seedlings for trial planting on 25 hectares in Ba Cau village, Suoi Bu commune (old). However, the most difficult problem at that time was that people did not understand Bat Do bamboo and did not know the economic efficiency of bamboo.

With the spirit of daring to think, daring to do, along with his own efforts, Mr. De used his own success to mobilize nearly 70 households and a number of members to develop Bat Do bamboo shoots. After 2 years of planting, the bamboo has shown clear effectiveness. In 2022, for the first time, there was income from Bat Do bamboo shoots, people were very excited and continued to develop and expand the area.

Following the initial success, in 2023, Mr. De boldly established a cooperative to grow and consume Bat Do bamboo shoots with 6 participating members. Once the cooperative was established, Mr. De coordinated with commune officials to survey the land area in Bu Cao village to expand the bamboo shoot planting area. After that, he connected with the supplier to bring 2,000 seedlings (equivalent to a planting area of 5 hectares) to nearly 30 households and members of the Veterans Association. By 2024, he continued to contact and connect with Son Thuan Company Limited to buy seedlings for 7 households in Lang Hua village. Through 3 bamboo shoot crops, Mr. De realized that Bat Do bamboo shoots are very suitable for the local climate and soil and will be the main crop contributing to poverty reduction for the people.

Since 2021, thanks to Bat Do bamboo, Mr. De has helped many households escape poverty, contributing to reducing the poverty rate in the commune. Mr. Sung A De excitedly shared: Initially, I boldly researched and brought 15,000 Bat Do bamboo seedlings to test planting in the village, directly signing a product consumption contract with the enterprise. At the same time, persistently mobilizing nearly 70 households to participate, the model quickly brought positive results. In 2022, the first harvest was 8 tons of bamboo shoots, in 2023, expanded by 5 hectares with an output of 16 tons, in 2024 - 2025, reaching 90 tons, worth over 400 million VND. From this model, 8 households have escaped poverty, contributing to reducing the poverty rate in the village from 41.67% to 28.57% by the end of June 2025.

Comrade Nguyen Huu Luc - Chairman of Van Chan Commune People's Committee said: Mr. Sung A De always promotes the pioneering spirit, exemplary role of a person, a party member and the good qualities of "Uncle Ho's soldiers". He constantly studies, practices, participates in all political training classes, implements Directive 05-CT/TW, maintains pure qualities, a simple and honest lifestyle, has prestige among the people, is always united, responsible and dynamic in work. The highlight of his achievements is pioneering the construction of an economic development model from Bat Do bamboo shoots.

In recognition of his achievements, Mr. Sung A De has been awarded many certificates of merit and certificates of merit by all levels. More honorably, in 2024, he was awarded a Certificate of Merit by the Prime Minister for his outstanding achievements in studying and following the ideology, morality and style of Ho Chi Minh .
