Helping workers build their 'dream home'

Owning a decent house is a dream for many workers, civil servants, and low-income laborers. Thanks to the social housing loan program of the Vietnam Bank for Social Policies, that “dream” has become a reality for many families in Song Cong City.

As a single mother, Trinh Thi Vu, a poor household for many years, lived with her son in a makeshift house of less than 20 square meters. The difficult life forced her son to put aside his dream of going to university to work as a worker at a company in an industrial park to support his family.

In 2022, after being informed by the local government about the social housing loan program, Ms. Vu decided to borrow 300 million VND from the Social Policy Bank of Song Cong City. With the savings of the mother and daughter, she was able to build a new house of more than 100 square meters, spacious.

Sharing about the joy of having a new "home", Ms. Vu was moved: Thanks to the loan from the Social Policy Bank, my family has a decent place to live and can feel secure in stabilizing our lives.

The house of Ms. Trinh Thi Vu's family, in Nguyen Gia residential group, Cai Dan ward (Song Cong city) was built with preferential loans from the Social Policy Bank.

The family of Ms. Chu Thi Ngu, Group 4A, Pho Co Ward, with 6 members, also lives in a cramped, dilapidated house. Although they want to renovate and rebuild, their economic conditions do not allow it. In 2023, she was consulted and supported to access social housing loans. The couple discussed and decided to borrow 400 million VND from the Social Policy Bank to build a spacious 2-storey house.

Ms. Ngu confided: “With a repayment period of 16 years, I only have to pay about 3 million VND in principal and interest each month, I can still balance my family’s spending. If I hadn’t boldly borrowed this source of capital, I don’t know when my family would have been able to build a new house.”

Learning more, we learned that Mo Che is currently the leading locality in Song Cong City in terms of outstanding social housing loans, with nearly 40 households receiving loans, total outstanding loans of over 15 billion VND. Mr. Dinh Cong Phuong, Chairman of Mo Che Ward People's Committee, said: The local government has actively coordinated with the Social Policy Bank to create the most favorable conditions to help workers, civil servants, and laborers access preferential loans, simplify the lending process... Thereby helping those in need and eligible to borrow capital to access loans to support housing construction quickly and promptly.

Ms. Trinh Thi Vu, in Nguyen Gia residential group, Cai Dan ward (Song Cong city), was happy after building a new, spacious house.

Like Mo Che ward, the disbursement of preferential loans to help civil servants and laborers build houses in Song Cong area has been quite effective.

From 2020 to present, the Transaction Office of the Social Policy Bank of Song Cong City has lent capital to 112 households in the city to build houses, with a total outstanding debt of over 47 billion VND. From the beginning of 2025 to present, 13 households have received loans, with an outstanding debt of nearly 6.9 billion VND. The current preferential interest rate is 4.8%/year, the loan term is from 15 to 25 years, suitable for the repayment capacity of civil servants and employees.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Huong, Director of the Social Policy Bank of Song Cong City, said: Thanks to the effective coordination between the bank and the Party Committee and authorities at all levels, the social housing lending sector in Song Cong City has achieved outstanding results compared to other localities in the province. This is not only a simple loan program for households but also has profound humanitarian significance.

In the coming time, the Transaction Office of the Social Policy Bank of Song Cong City will continue to implement solutions to effectively deploy preferential loans for social housing, such as: coordinating with local authorities to regularly review, supplement, and approve the list of eligible borrowers; promoting communication; supporting loan procedures... to help civil servants, poor workers access preferential loans conveniently, helping them "settle down", contributing to building a sustainable community.
