As someone who has gone through the process of being a resident, I understand that feeling. But at the same time, I also want to tell my young colleagues that: residency - although very proud - is only the first step on a long journey of career.
In Vietnam, the journey to train medical specialists does not have only one path. In addition to the residency system, we also have specialized and graduate programs. Each system has its own value, contributing to the formation of a diverse team of doctors, meeting the needs of health care at many different levels.
Residency is considered a harsh training environment, because during the 3 years of training, young doctors both study and directly participate in clinical work, night shifts, surgery, and emergency care.

Residency is considered a harsh training environment, because in 3 years of training, young doctors both study and directly participate in the clinical machinery, night shifts, surgery, and emergency. That intensity helps many people grow up remarkably. However, that does not mean residency is "noble" compared to other paths. Whether good or not, successful or not, depends on each person, on the continuous learning throughout their professional life.
I still remember the years of residency: the long nights, the difficult cases, the nervousness and pride of standing in the operating room with the great doctors. That period of time helped me accumulate a lot of experience, train my observation and handling skills, and patience under pressure. It really was the foundation for me to be more confident when I stepped out to practice independently.
But today, looking back, I see one thing clearly: boarding only helps us go a few steps faster, the road ahead is where our true abilities are tested. Much of the knowledge we learned has changed, many techniques have been replaced. If we do not continue to update ourselves, do not diligently read, learn and practice, then in just a few years, the halo of boarding will no longer have any meaning.
In international medicine, especially in the US, France, Japan or many European countries, residency is a mandatory step for a doctor to practice a specialty. In other words, it is not a "special honor", but an essential part of the training system.
As a former resident, I would like to tell you who have just started your new journey: be proud of this title, but also stay humble. Don't compare yourself to your colleagues in other training systems, because every path has its value. More importantly, never let yourself stop. Every case, every professional activity, every workshop... is an opportunity for you to go further.
