Google's Gemini AI assistant can work across multiple apps with just a single command on Samsung's new Galaxy S25 series.
The Galaxy S25 is Samsung's first smartphone to use Google Gemini as its default AI assistant, replacing Bixby. Users can still access Bixby on the phone, but holding down the power button will call up Gemini instead of Bixby.
Google has updated Gemini to make it smarter and more capable of performing complex multi-modal tasks. For example, users can ask Gemini to find a picture of a restaurant and send it to a friend, or find an upcoming event and add it to their calendar with a single prompt.
Multi-app support builds on Gemini's existing extensions, covering a range of Google apps and some third-party apps like WhatsApp and Spotify. Today's update adds Samsung apps to the list, including Samsung Calendar, Notes, Reminder and Clock.
Gemini Live – a voice-based conversation mode – is also upgraded, although it is limited to the Galaxy S25 and S24, Google Pixel 9. Device owners can share images, files, YouTube videos to the chat interface, request Gemini to respond and provide information.
Circle to Search has been improved to automatically recognize phone numbers, email addresses, and URLs for easier interaction. AI Overviews in search results have been expanded to work with more visual result types.
Finally, Google announced changes to make it easier to pair braille screen readers and hearing aids with Android devices.
