Ha Long will apply the Internet of Things, AI, and Blockchain to teaching.

Ha Long City has outlined plans to develop modern technologies in education, such as the Internet of Things (IoT), the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into teaching, and the widespread application of big data and blockchain technology from preschool to high school.

On November 14th, the People's Committee of Ha Long City organized a scientific seminar with the theme "Developing education in Ha Long in the new era - the era of national progress".

The workshop was attended by 400 delegates including scientists, experts, education managers, leaders of agencies, units, and localities, as well as teachers and school administrators in the area.

Integrating AI into teaching

According to Mr. Vu Quyet Tien, Secretary of the Ha Long City Party Committee, in recent years, to improve the quality of education, the locality has invested more than 1,200 billion VND in infrastructure and human resources to serve teaching.

Ha Long is making significant investments to soon join UNESCO's global learning network.

Specifically for the 2024-2025 school year, the city is renovating and repairing the facilities of 68 schools with a budget of 41 billion VND, investing in the construction of 9 new facilities with a total amount of 151 billion VND, and purchasing and enhancing facilities and classrooms for 63 schools with a budget of 19 billion VND.

To date, the city has 70 out of 117 schools meeting national standards, and it is expected that by the end of 2024, 87 out of 117 schools will meet national standards (reaching 75%). All of this not only helps improve the quality of education but also creates opportunities for lifelong learning and continuous learning for everyone.

In addition, to fulfill the criteria for building a learning environment in the community, the city has implemented a set of criteria for evaluating and recognizing learning models citywide, such as "Learning Citizen," "Learning Family," "Learning Clan," "Learning Community," and "Learning Unit."

By the end of 2023, the number of families achieving the "Learning Family" status reached 90% of the total registered households and 83% of the total number of households in the city; "Learning Clan" status reached 72% of the total number of clans; "Learning Community" status at the commune level was rated as good or higher; and 100% of communes achieved the "Learning Unit" status.

According to Mr. Vu Quyet Tien, to improve the effectiveness of teaching and learning, local authorities are focusing on implementing digital transformation in education to build a smart learning ecosystem where students, teachers, parents, and schools can easily connect and interact with each other.

Ms. Vi Thi Bich Hanh, Head of the Education and Training Department of Ha Long City, said that one of the key tasks for the local education sector in the coming time is to register with UNESCO's global learning network.

"Participating in UNESCO's global network of learning cities provides the people of Ha Long with more favorable conditions for exchanging ideas, knowledge, and experiences with other member cities around the world ; at the same time, it enhances the prestige and recognition of the international community as well as increasing the ability to attract investment and human resources," Ms. Hanh said.

To be included in UNESCO's global learning network as soon as possible, according to Professor Nguyen Quy Thanh, Rector of the University of Education (Vietnam National University, Hanoi), Ha Long City in the new era needs to focus on solutions such as building and implementing human resource development in Ha Long in a progressive and modern direction; strengthening the identification, training, and utilization of talent; ensuring the quality and standardization of the team of nannies and preschool teachers; innovating educational management and promoting autonomy in schools; policies on tuition fee exemption and reduction and financial support for students...

Offering suggestions for the development of education in Ha Long City in the new era, Professor-Doctor, People's Teacher Nguyen Huu Duc, former Vice Director of Hanoi National University, suggested that Ha Long should aim for green, innovative education by analyzing eight important aspects of Education 6.0 when combining innovation and entrepreneurship, including: green and innovative entrepreneurial thinking for sustainable development; educational programs on innovation and sustainable development; technology supporting innovation and entrepreneurship; developing a green entrepreneurial ecosystem in schools; training soft skills and entrepreneurial thinking; international cooperation and participation in the global community; implementing policies to support sustainable entrepreneurship in education; and building and implementing a ranking of green, innovative education.
