To improve the effectiveness of tuberculosis prevention activities in the area by 2025, the Hanoi Tuberculosis Control Program continues to mobilize political commitment and resources for tuberculosis prevention to build, ensure and develop network activities from the city to grassroots health care to ensure adequate and timely supply, good monitoring of tuberculosis treatment drugs, specialized supplies; early detection, correct treatment, good monitoring of patients with sensitive tuberculosis, latent tuberculosis, and drug-resistant tuberculosis.
Mr. Nguyen Van Dong - Director of Hanoi Lung Hospital, Head of Hanoi Tuberculosis Control Program emphasized this at the Rally in response to World Tuberculosis Day (March 24) with the theme 2025: "Vietnam commits, invests, and acts to end tuberculosis" taking place on March 21.
In 2025, continuing the success and strong dissemination of the results of TB prevention and control work and implementing sustainable commitments, Hanoi will invest resources and effectively implement important interventions for TB prevention, diagnosis, treatment and care.
Drug-resistant tuberculosis treatment management activities in Hanoi fluctuate from year to year but are always at a high level compared to the northern provinces (only after the Central Lung Hospital). The treatment results of drug-resistant tuberculosis patients are about 75%, equivalent to the target assigned in 2024.
Statistics from the Hanoi City Tuberculosis Control Program show that the total number of people examined for suspected tuberculosis in 2024 is 113,316, an increase compared to 2023; ensuring that 1.1% of the city's population is examined and detected for tuberculosis in the year. The number of people with all types of tuberculosis admitted for treatment and prevention in the year is 4,205 people. The number of people examined and tested for sputum is 37,206 people, reaching 108% exceeding the planned target; the total number of detected tuberculosis cases is 4,037 patients, reaching 99.8%; the rate of successful treatment of all types is 95.8%...
The detection and treatment rate of Hanoi is equivalent to the general rate of the North. Some districts with high number of patients admitted in 2024 are Ung Hoa, Chuong My, Hoan Kiem, Quoc Oai, Long Bien. Some units with low admission rate include Soc Son, Me Linh, Cau Giay, Bac Tu Liem...

According to the report, the Hanoi City Tuberculosis Control Program maintains a tuberculosis control network from the city level to districts/towns and 100% of communes/wards/towns. Units have established and maintained a Steering Committee for primary health care and disease prevention, including tuberculosis. The tuberculosis care facilities at the district level are the tuberculosis control team and tuberculosis clinics in 30 districts/towns/towns. Each commune/ward/town health station has 1 officer specializing in tuberculosis control, performing tasks at the grassroots health level.
General and specialized hospitals in the city, public and non-public medical facilities, and special model units participate in coordination in examining, detecting, diagnosing, referring, and managing and treating tuberculosis patients...
The Hanoi City Tuberculosis Control Program also promotes proactive screening activities, maintains the model of Active TB Detection in the community on a large scale, pilots the model of ending TB in each locality with support from projects; actively deploys detection...
Regarding public-private health coordination activities, the Hanoi health sector has also promoted, optimized, and strengthened screening, detection, and treatment of tuberculosis through public-public health coordination; public-private coordination in Hanoi city; and sent samples and patients diagnosed with tuberculosis to the anti-tuberculosis program system...
Along with professional activities, the Hanoi City Tuberculosis Prevention Program has strengthened communication activities on mass media, on loudspeakers of communes and wards; provided 3,000 leaflets and brochures on tuberculosis prevention and latent tuberculosis to tuberculosis clinics...
Speaking at the program, Associate Professor Nguyen Binh Hoa - Deputy Director of the Central Lung Hospital requested the Hanoi City Tuberculosis Control Program to continue to mobilize the strong participation of the Hanoi City political system; continue to deploy, ensure the quality and effectiveness of activities of screening, examination, detection, diagnosis and management of tuberculosis, multidrug-resistant tuberculosis, and latent tuberculosis. In particular, Hanoi needs to step up propaganda work so that departments, branches, organizations and people can join hands and unite to prevent tuberculosis to end this disease.
World Tuberculosis Day is held on March 24 every year to raise public awareness of the serious impacts of tuberculosis on human health, the economy and society./.
