Genetic testing, assessing the risk of Covid-19 epidemic
Assessing that Covid-19 may increase in the coming time, the Hanoi Department of Health has requested the Hanoi Center for Disease Control (CDC) to coordinate with relevant units to collect samples, conduct gene sequencing tests to identify the SARS-CoV-2 virus strain causing the disease circulating in the area, assess the risk and advise on appropriate disease prevention solutions.

Closely monitor and supervise the Covid-19 epidemic situation and infectious diseases, regularly assess the risk of epidemics in the city, thereby promptly advising on appropriate and effective epidemic prevention measures.
At the same time, strengthen medical quarantine work at Noi Bai International Airport as well as epidemic surveillance at medical facilities and the community to promptly detect, isolate, and promptly handle epidemic cases.
According to the Hanoi Department of Health, in the past 5 months, the city has recorded 156 Covid-19 cases, with no deaths. The Covid-19 epidemic has tended to increase in the past 3 weeks, and it is predicted that more cases will be recorded in the coming time. According to the latest monitoring, in the week from May 23 to 30, Hanoi recorded 156 Covid-19 cases.
Several hospitals in Hanoi: National Children's Hospital, Dong Da Hospital, Thanh Nhan Hospital, and Hanoi Children's Hospital have recently admitted Covid-19 patients for treatment due to the risk of worsening.
Regarding the circulation of some variants causing the Covid-19 epidemic, the Ministry of Health said that in countries, since the beginning of 2025, the global SARS-CoV-2 variant trend has changed, LP.8.1 replaced XEC to become the dominant variant in mid-March 2025.
LP.8.1 has recently declined as NB.1.8.1 (a variant under surveillance, with mutations associated with higher transmissibility), has increased in prevalence, accounting for 10.7% of global genome sequencing results as of mid-May 2025.
In Vietnam, the Ministry of Health confirmed that the southern research agency recorded the NB.1.8.1 variant accounting for most of the gene sequencing samples from Covid-19 patients hospitalized in the third week of May 2025.
