Attending the program were Member of the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee, Secretary of the Hoan Kiem Ward Party Committee Vu Dang Dinh; Member of the City Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Vu Thu Ha; Member of the City Party Committee, Director of the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports Bach Lien Huong; representatives of leaders of departments, branches and sectors of the City and Hoan Kiem Ward; along with a large number of people of the Capital and music lovers.

The project “Weekend Music” at the Octagonal House – Ly Thai To Flower Garden was launched by the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports on November 30, with the expectation of building this place into a familiar cultural meeting place, so that music can resonate in the historical space of Hoan Kiem Lake, creating close and attractive artistic experiences.

Speaking at the opening performance of the project, Director of the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports Bach Lien Huong emphasized that in the cultural life of the capital, music always holds a special position. Music is not only art, but also the breath of the community, a spiritual support that helps each of us find balance and relaxation in the midst of modern life. With that meaning, Hanoi city always pays deep attention to the development of professional art and the development of cultural industry to bring art closer to the people, especially in public spaces, where everyone can access, enjoy and share the good values of culture.

“From that spirit, under the direction and guidance of the city leaders, the accompaniment of units and organizations, especially artists, the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports has implemented the project “Weekend Music” at the Octagonal House - Ly Thai To Flower Garden, with the goal of bringing the people of the capital quality art performances every weekend. We hope this place will become a familiar cultural meeting place, where music resonates in the historical space of Hoan Kiem Lake, so that the community can relax, feel and connect with art in the most natural and complete way”, the Director of the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports emphasized.

In the spiritual life of Trang An people, music has long been the breath that unites the community. The choice of the Octagonal House, an architectural symbol next to Hoan Kiem Lake, as the venue demonstrates the idea of exploiting dual values: both promoting the role of public space and turning heritage into a vibrant backdrop for contemporary art. The goal of the project is to create a weekend cultural meeting place, bringing a luxurious yet intimate experience to all classes of the public.
The opening program clearly demonstrated serious investment in expertise when inviting Meritorious Artist Quyen Van Minh and Binh Minh Jazz Club to perform. The liberal jazz sound blended with the ancient space of Hoan Kiem Lake created a modern and nostalgic tone. Besides the veteran artists, the program also had the participation of lecturers and students from art training institutions, bringing youthful and creative energy.

The artists brought to the audience orchestral and vocal pieces imbued with the romantic and liberal style of world and Vietnamese jazz such as: “In the mood”, “Village festival”, “Blue monk”, “Northern wind”, “Our love is here to stay”, “LOVE”, “The shadow of your smile”, “Remembering Hau Giang”, “Solamente una vez”, “Cry me a river”, “Samba of Orfeu”, “Tay Nguyen improvisation”, “Blue Moon”, “Dream a little dream of me”, “Mot trai Hue”, “Monalisa”, “When I fall in love”, “Day hoi mua”, “Watermelon man”…
The combination of rich experience and youth has created an emotional artistic space. According to the plan, the “Weekend Music” Project will not be limited to one genre but will expand to folk music, chamber music, classical music and pop music, to serve a diverse audience and enrich the cultural life of the capital.

Sharing at the program, Meritorious Artist Quyen Van Minh expressed his hope that jazz will appear more frequently in public spaces in Hanoi. He said that jazz has long been performed mainly in tea rooms and theaters, but with this project, the music genre has the opportunity to reach a wider audience.

The “Weekend Music” project is expected to become a new cultural landmark of Hanoi, contributing to promoting the image of a civilized, hospitable and creative capital. When music resonates in historical spaces, that is also the time when culture spreads widely, enriching the spiritual life of the people and leaving beautiful echoes in the hearts of tourists from all over the world./.
