Developing OCOP products: Distilling the essence, spreading identity

In recent years, the “One Commune One Product” (OCOP) program in Thai Nguyen has recorded many positive changes as local products have gradually improved in quality, affirming regional identity. The distillation of the quintessence from raw materials to production processes has helped Thai Nguyen OCOP products create their own mark on the market.

Many OCOP products have been standardized in quality, improved in design, applied digital technology and traceability, expanded the domestic market and gradually reached the international market. Along with the new rural development program, Thai Nguyen identified OCOP as a key solution to promote internal resources, increase the value of agricultural products and stimulate creativity in rural areas.

To date, the province has 561 OCOP products, of which 10 products have achieved 5-star national standards, ranking third in the country. These results contribute to increasing people's income, preserving traditional crafts and strengthening the agricultural product brand of Thai Nguyen province.

Mr. Nguyen My Hai, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, emphasized: Thanks to the fertile land, traditional crafts and the hard-working hands of the people, OCOP subjects have created products with their own stories, identities and values, capable of reaching domestic and foreign markets. Subjects increasingly focus on stable raw material areas, quality standards, food safety, application of processing and preservation technology, e-commerce and brand building.

The OCOP program develops products while also arousing indigenous knowledge and cultural pride in each region. From the advantages of land, traditional crafts and hard work, the subjects create products with their own stories, identities and values, competitive enough domestically and internationally. This is the foundation for OCOP Thai Nguyen to continue to develop strongly in the period of deep integration.

The distillation of the quintessence from raw materials to the production process helps Thai Nguyen OCOP products create their own mark on the market.

The highlight in spreading the value of OCOP products is the contest "OCOP Thai Nguyen - Distilling the quintessence - Spreading identity" in 2025, gathering more than 200 subjects representing hundreds of subjects in the province.

The contest contributes to fostering pride, arousing the desire for innovation to develop products in a green, sustainable and internationally integrated direction; honoring creative labor, the spirit of innovation and affirming the province's determination in developing a modern rural economy.

At the contest, the subjects introduced product stories, packaging designs, market connection ideas and value chain development orientation, turning each product into a "cultural ambassador" of the locality. Comrade Nguyen Thi Loan, Vice Chairwoman of the Provincial People's Committee, emphasized: The contest contributes to honoring typical products, stimulating creativity, improving quality and expanding the market. All levels, sectors and OCOP subjects need to focus on investing in advantageous products, standardizing quality, applying digital technology, developing tourism associated with OCOP and improving business capacity.

In parallel, thematic seminars on sustainable OCOP, with the participation of experts, entrepreneurs and managers, discussed market trends, quality standards, processing and preservation technology and promotion strategies. The space for displaying and experiencing products also helped connect partners, expand the market and spread the image of Thai Nguyen OCOP.

The OCOP Thai Nguyen program is gradually affirming its quintessence, connecting tradition and creativity. Each product is a cultural story, representing the intelligence and enthusiasm of the people. Thanks to standardized quality and a methodical development strategy, OCOP Thai Nguyen is reaching out to the domestic and international markets.
