Self-study and practice

Working at Radar Station 35 since mid-2022, as a radar operator, how to quickly master the unit's new and modern equipment is Nguyen Quang Long's concern. With the enthusiastic guidance and instruction of the unit commander and his own constant learning, active self-study, and research of documents on radar equipment, including breaks and days off, Long quickly improved his professional qualifications. Assigned by the Station Commander to work shifts at the command post, Long always flexibly handled situations and completed assigned tasks well.

Corporal Nguyen Quang Long always studies and trains voluntarily.

Recently, Radar Station 35 organized a tactical exercise directed by Regiment 293. Corporal Nguyen Quang Long, as a surveyor, carried out the commander's intentions well, closely managed the targets, and did not allow any mistakes, omissions, delays, or false reporting of targets. After the exercise, he was commended by the Regiment commander in front of the unit.

As a capable and responsible soldier, he was assigned by the unit commander to help new soldiers at the Station improve their professional skills to meet the requirements and tasks. With his practical experience, Nguyen Quang Long enthusiastically guided soldiers in the platoon and squad to quickly grasp and exploit new equipment; and master the responsibilities and duties of guarding the command post.

Private Nguyen Van Hiep, P18M Engineer, P18M Platoon confided: “When I first arrived at the unit for professional training, I and many other soldiers found it very difficult to approach and operate the equipment. However, with the enthusiastic guidance and help of comrade Nguyen Quang Long, we gradually matured. Every time we participated in direct supervision with him, the soldiers learned more useful lessons.”

Exemplary in practicing thrift

In addition to completing his duties well in training, being on duty ready for combat and being exemplary in abiding by unit discipline, Corporal Nguyen Quang Long is also a shining example in practicing thrift and being filial to his parents. Understanding his family's difficult circumstances, he saved up his small monthly allowance to send home to help his parents.

Confiding in us, Nguyen Quang Long said: “In the first days of my unit, I set myself a target and tried to achieve it. Every month, I set aside a portion enough for personal expenses, and the rest I would save. Thanks to that, I save about 500 thousand VND each month. Up to now, I have sent home more than 7 million VND to my family.”

According to Lieutenant Hoang Xuan Tuyen, Station Chief, Radar Station 35, Regiment 293, Corporal Nguyen Quang Long's practice of saving has spread to other soldiers in the same unit. At first, many soldiers teased Long's actions, but now they have actively participated, especially in the "Filial Son, Comradely Love" Campaign launched by their superiors. Recently, soldiers in Platoon P18M have all practiced saving and sending money home. "When the month comes to receive their allowance, the soldiers come to send money, the Platoon Commander records in the book the specific amount of money, the time of sending, then sends someone to the post office to send the money or transfer it to the soldiers' family accounts," said Lieutenant Hoang Xuan Tuyen.

Standing in the ranks of the Party, Nguyen Quang Long promised himself that he would strive to promote his role as an exemplary pioneer, raise his awareness of studying and training, strictly comply with the regulations of the unit and military discipline, and complete assigned tasks well, worthy of the qualities of Uncle Ho's soldiers, "An excellent Air Defense - Air Force soldier".
