Contractors are speeding up construction of the Quang Ngai - Hoai Nhon Expressway Project. |
Infrastructure is invested synchronously
In the socio -economic development strategy of the Central region, infrastructure always plays a decisive role, especially after the merger, the need for connectivity becomes even more urgent. Therefore, the Central provinces are accelerating investment in synchronous and modern transport infrastructure, creating a foundation for inter-regional connectivity, promoting socio-economic development. A clear proof of this is a series of key transport projects that have been and are being strongly implemented in the Central region such as the Da Nang - Quang Ngai, Quang Ngai - Hoai Nhon, Cam Lo - La Son, Nha Trang - Cam Lam expressways... not only shortening travel time between localities but also opening up new development space along the Central coastal economic corridor.
Dr. Phan Thi Song Thuong (Central Institute of Social Sciences ) said that currently, the transport infrastructure in the Central region has been basically invested in. Currently, inter-provincial connecting routes such as coastal roads have been invested to facilitate economic development. In particular, after the merger, investment in transport infrastructure has been focused, obstacles have been resolved and investment has been avoided. The development of the North-South expressway opens up many opportunities for provinces to make breakthroughs, especially in the field of logistics.

For example, at the construction site of the North-South Expressway Construction Investment Project, Quang Ngai - Hoai Nhon section with a total investment of more than VND 20,400 billion, thousands of workers and equipment are urgently racing against time, determined to complete the project before December 31, 2025.
A representative of Deo Ca Group (the leading contractor of the joint venture) said that 50/50 construction teams are being deployed at the construction site with 3,000 employees and 1,100 pieces of equipment. The total output to date has reached about 11,500 billion VND, equivalent to 86% of the total volume. All packages are being implemented synchronously. The Group clearly identifies this as a particularly important project, of strategic significance to the Central region and the whole country. Therefore, in addition to speeding up the progress, we pay special attention to the safety and quality of the project.
Component 3 of the Khanh Hoa - Buon Ma Thuot Expressway Construction Project Phase I is also being rushed. With high determination, contractors are striving to complete the project by the end of November this year. Mr. Tran Van Hong, Deputy Site Commander of Package 2, said that the package has a total length of 15.5 km. After overcoming initial difficulties in site clearance, about 72% of the volume has been completed, ensuring overall progress.
Meanwhile, after nearly 2 years of implementation efforts, the Hoa Lien - Tuy Loan Expressway Construction Project through Da Nang, with a total capital of 2,113 billion VND, has basically been completed and organized for technical traffic. Mr. Le Thanh Binh, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh Road Project Management Board (investor) said that the project has basically completed 11.5 km of the main expressway route; two service roads on both sides of the expressway are also being implemented to be completed in 2025.
Recently, the People's Committee of Da Nang City has decided to approve the investment project of the Road connecting the Western Ring Road to the La Son - Tuy Loan Expressway. The project has a total investment of more than 1,600 billion VND, with implementation time from 2025 to 2028. The starting point of the route intersects with the Western Ring Road in Ba Na commune; the end point intersects with the Nam Hai Van Tunnel - Tuy Loan branch.
According to the People's Committee of Da Nang City, the investment in the construction of this route will contribute to completing the main traffic network according to the general planning project of Da Nang City until 2030, with a vision to 2045. The project also helps promote the effectiveness of investment in key projects, connecting the Concentrated Information Technology Park, High-Tech Park, Hoa Ninh Industrial Park... with the main traffic axes of the city, meeting future transportation needs, especially transporting goods from Lien Chieu Port to the South, West of the city and vice versa.
In addition to highways, seaports are also receiving investment attention from the Central provinces such as Dung Quat Deepwater Port (Quang Ngai), Cam Ranh Port, Van Phong (Khanh Hoa) or Lien Chieu Port which is being invested in... After Component A - the shared infrastructure part, Lien Chieu Port Project started construction at the end of 2022 and is expected to be completed at the end of 2025. Thereby, it is expected that the project will not only be a large infrastructure project, but also a symbol of the ambition to develop the marine economy and logistics of Da Nang in particular, the Central region in general; it can become an international transit port of Southeast Asian stature.
Recently, the People's Committee of Da Nang City has approved the investment policy for the overall construction project of Lien Chieu Container Port with a total estimated investment capital of more than 45,000 billion VND. The project aims to form a modern container port, green port standards, and an international transit port.
According to the Vietnam Maritime Administration, Lien Chieu Port is oriented to become an international gateway port, attracting major transport and logistics companies in the world. Notably, in the future, when Lien Chieu Port is formed, it will be linked to the Da Nang Free Trade Zone, creating favorable conditions for Da Nang to become a regional and international freight transit center, contributing to strongly attracting investment capital flows into the City.
This is also the reason why investment in Lien Chieu ports has received great attention from famous domestic and international investors in the fields of seaport exploitation, logistics and maritime transport.
In Quang Tri, the My Thuy Port Construction Investment Project, invested by My Thuy International Port Joint Stock Company (MTIP), is expected to complete wharf No. 1 in November 2025 and wharf No. 2 in March 2026. The project has a total area of 685 hectares; scale of 10 wharfs; ensuring to receive ships with a tonnage of up to 100,000 tons, with a total investment capital of VND 15,000 billion.
Meanwhile, the Quang Tri Airport Project with a total investment of more than 5,800 billion VND has so far completed the aircraft parking area, expected to be put into operation in 2026. After being put into operation, Quang Tri Airport will form a regional and international aviation complex on a planned area of about 3,400 hectares, including Urban Area - Trade and Services - Logistics - Semiconductor Industry and high-tech industries.
Horizontal axis development
In particular, in the coming time, the North-South high-speed railway will be invested in running through the Central provinces, which will open up more opportunities and space for further development. To prepare for this, the provinces are building resettlement areas and clearing land for the project.
According to Mr. Nguyen Minh Huy, Director of the Management Board of Investment and Construction of Traffic and Agricultural Works in Da Nang, the City has started construction of the Resettlement Area to serve the North-South High-Speed Railway Project. The North-South High-Speed Railway passing through Da Nang is 116 km long, expected to affect more than 2,100 households. To solve the resettlement problem, Da Nang plans to build 35 resettlement areas, with a total area of 211 hectares, creating more than 3,300 resettlement plots. The total cost for this work is estimated at more than 3,600 billion VND.
Not only that, Da Nang established two special working groups to handle issues related to compensation, resettlement support for the high-speed railway project running through the city.
In addition to developing vertical axes, provinces and cities in the Central region are also focusing on investing in horizontal highway projects to exploit local potential and advantages.
According to the Road Network Planning for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050, the Quang Ngai - Kon Tum Expressway connects the Eastern North - South Expressway and the Western North - South Expressway, with a length of about 136 km, a scale of 4 lanes, and an investment progress before 2030. This project has just been added by the Prime Minister to the project list and the State Steering Committee for important national projects and key transport sector works and projects has been completed.
In addition, in Gia Lai, the Provincial People's Committee is directing the preparation work to promptly start the Quy Nhon - Pleiku Expressway project, component 1, in October 2025, the project component 2 in December 2025, and the project component 3 in November 2025. The Quy Nhon - Pleiku Expressway project has a total length of about 125 km with a total project investment of more than VND 43,700 billion.
According to the leaders of Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee, this is the most important project of the locality, shortening travel time, connecting traffic between economic zones, between mountainous and coastal areas, creating favorable conditions for trade development. This route breaks the monopoly of National Highway 19, creating momentum for socio-economic development and ensuring national defense and security. The route also connects international border gates, urban areas, and seaports.
