The key to connectivity and sustainable development.
Located approximately 70km from Hanoi, Thai Nguyen prioritizes investment in transportation infrastructure to capitalize on its geographical advantages. During the past term, the province allocated over 9,172 billion VND to 26 key projects, 17 of which are expected to be completed, comprising nearly 160km of new and upgraded roads, along with over 2,200km of rural roads, contributing to connecting remote areas and transforming the rural landscape. Bac Kan (formerly) also allocated 5,770 billion VND to 12 projects, renovating and expanding over 110km of provincial roads, gradually completing its transportation network.
Many key routes such as the Hanoi-Thai Nguyen Expressway, National Highway 3, National Highway 37, and Ring Road V (the section through Thai Nguyen) have been upgraded and expanded, enhancing connectivity with provinces and economic centers in the North.
In particular, the Cho Moi – Bac Kan expressway, with an investment of 5,750 billion VND, has connected with the Thai Nguyen – Cho Moi and Bac Kan – Cao Bang expressways, shortening travel time to Hanoi and creating momentum for the development of the northern midland and mountainous regions.
The Ho Chi Minh Highway project, specifically the Cho Chu - Tuyen Quang section passing through Thai Nguyen, is being accelerated and is considered a vital artery connecting the North and South, creating momentum for transportation, tourism, and cultural exchange.
Mr. Nguyen Minh Tu, Secretary of Dinh Hoa commune, emphasized: "The road acts as a connecting artery, contributing to the completion of the commune's infrastructure, opening up opportunities for trade and consumption of agricultural and forestry products, as well as the planning of industrial clusters and residential areas on both sides of the road."
Building integrated infrastructure is not only a technical requirement but also a strategic pillar for sustainable development.
Thai Nguyen has proactively reviewed and adjusted its general planning, zoning plans, and district-level regional planning to align with the provincial planning, thereby creating a foundation for the formation of modern urban areas, dynamic industrial zones, and promoting comprehensive socio-economic development.
In parallel, prior to the merger, Thai Nguyen had planned 11 industrial parks with a total area of 4,245 hectares and a concentrated information technology park, of which 5 are operating effectively. Regarding industrial clusters, the province has 41 planned clusters covering 2,060 hectares, and has established 17 clusters with over 861 hectares. Bac Kan planned 9 clusters and established 11 industrial clusters on an area of 358 hectares, contributing to expanding production space and diversifying the economy.
Mr. Lee Sun Ho, Head of Sales and Import-Export Department of Dongsung Vina Co., Ltd. (South Korea), said: "We considered many locations when coming to Vietnam, but Thai Nguyen stood out thanks to its good infrastructure, stable workforce, and enthusiastic support. It is an ideal place for long-term production development."

Infrastructure encompasses not only roads and factories but also information systems, education, and healthcare – key pillars for sustainable development. Thai Nguyen stands out in digital transformation, with over 90% of administrative agencies at all levels applying smart operating platforms along with software for managing education, healthcare, and agriculture, contributing to improved management efficiency and better service to the people.
In the field of education, Thai Nguyen continuously invests in improving the quality of training, maintaining its position as a major training center in the midland and mountainous region of Northern Vietnam. Thai Nguyen University currently trains over 60,000 students, aiming to become a digital university, strengthening cooperation with businesses and international partners, and elevating the quality of training and scientific research.
Thai Nguyen's healthcare infrastructure is being modernized with high-tech equipment at Thai Nguyen Central Hospital – a crucial tertiary care facility – along with the upgraded A and B hospital systems and the grassroots healthcare network. The percentage of people receiving medical treatment at the provincial level exceeds 85%, improving the quality of healthcare services and better meeting the community's healthcare needs.
Furthermore, significant investment has been made in digital infrastructure, expanding coverage to 100% of villages and hamlets. Thai Nguyen consistently ranked 8th out of 63 provinces and cities in digital transformation in 2021 and 2022, and also ranked 3rd nationwide in the proportion of added value from the digital economy in GRDP, with 34.1% in 2023 and 35.5% in 2024.
Synchronized and systematic investment in infrastructure is becoming a crucial lever for promoting the comprehensive development of Thai Nguyen. With a clear and decisive strategy, the province is steadily progressing on its journey to becoming a modern and sustainable economic and industrial center of the North, creating a solid foundation for future prosperity.
