Women's Association of Branch 75, Phan Dinh Phung Ward called for support and collected many necessities to send to flooded areas. |
Volunteering in the flood
In early October, when heavy rains continued, many residential areas in Phan Dinh Phung ward were deeply flooded. Power outages, traffic was paralyzed, and many households had to evacuate urgently. In the midst of these difficulties, the figures of women busily cooking rice, hurriedly moving buckets of water, bags of rice, etc. became a beautiful image of the spirit of "mutual love" of Thai Nguyen women.
As soon as the flood began, the Women's Union of Phan Dinh Phung Ward coordinated with the Fatherland Front of the ward to mobilize branches to participate in supporting the affected people. Of the 111 branches in the ward, most quickly got to work. Without anyone telling anyone, some took the initiative to cook rice, others received relief goods... Nearly 50 rice cooking groups initiated by women cooked more than 10,000 free meals every day to send to deep-flooded areas and rescue forces.
Among them is the Women's Association 75, where more than 20 members take turns cooking thousands of hot meals every day. Some contribute rice, some bring vegetables, some lend large pots and gas stoves. Along with that, the women also call on their children studying and working in Hanoi to join hands in calling for donations. In just a few days, they received two truckloads of clothes, books, and necessities sent to support people in flooded areas.
Not only in Branch 75, the kindness of the women at the grassroots level spread widely. Many women in other branches in the ward, although their houses were flooded, still proactively gathered at members' houses that were not flooded to cook rice and share with the flooded residential areas.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Tam, Vice President of the Women's Union of Phan Dinh Phung Ward, said: Amidst the storm and flood, the women in each residential group and each association not only cooked meals and wrapped meaningful gifts, but also spread the spirit of sharing in the midst of difficulties. When the water receded, the women, with the support of the community, continued to clean up mud, overcome the consequences, and encourage each other to stabilize their lives.
Join hands to spread love
In Cao Minh commune, a locality with many difficulties, the whole commune has 1,750 women's union member families, of which more than 1,000 are poor households. When the Women's Union of the commune coordinated with the Fatherland Front Committee of the commune to launch a fundraising campaign, the women responded enthusiastically. In just a few days, the amount of money and goods donated amounted to more than 5 tons of rice, 3 tons of pumpkin and cash.

Ms. Hoang Thi Bien, Vice President of the Fatherland Front Committee, President of the Women's Union of Cao Minh Commune, said: The economic conditions of many women are still very difficult, some families do not have enough rice to eat, but when hearing the call, everyone wants to contribute a small part. Some women bring pumpkins and corn kernels, because that is what they grow.
That spirit of mutual support was also replicated in many other places in the province. Women in Duc Xuan and Bac Kan wards cooked thousands of meals, wrapped hundreds of banh chung, and transported trucks of relief goods to flooded areas...
Immediately after the storm, the Women's Union at all levels in Thai Nguyen province urgently deployed activities to support overcoming the consequences, stabilizing life and restoring production. More than 50 organizations in communes and wards simultaneously mobilized to clean up houses, schools, and the environment; transported assets and livestock; cooked tens of thousands of free meals, and gave away thousands of gifts and necessities. Thousands of cadres, members, and women participated and contributed to helping people stabilize their lives soon.
At the provincial level, the Standing Committee of the Association coordinated with social organizations, businesses, and philanthropists to receive more than 2,000 gifts, worth nearly 2 billion VND in total, to provide timely support to members and households that suffered heavy losses. Through activities of visiting, encouraging, and giving necessities, thousands of women, children, and households received sharing and added strength to overcome their losses.
Ms. Ha Thi Dao, Vice Chairwoman of the Provincial Fatherland Front Committee, Chairwoman of the Provincial Women's Union, said: During the recent days of floods and rains, we have seen more clearly than ever the role, responsibility and heart of grassroots women. Despite the rain, wind and hardship, they still quietly connect love and share with the community with all their hearts. We believe that, from the challenges, those good qualities will be spread and promoted.
