Ha Tinh solemnly organizes Buddha's Birthday 2023

The 2567th Buddha's Birthday - 2023 solar calendar is an opportunity for monks, nuns, and Buddhists in Ha Tinh to review the life and immeasurable merits of Buddha Shakyamuni.

On the morning of May 21, at Trieu Son Pagoda (Mai Phu Commune, Loc Ha District), the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha of Ha Tinh Province held the Buddha's Birthday Celebration - VESAK, Buddhist calendar 2567 - solar calendar 2023.

Attending the ceremony were Deputy Supreme Patriarch of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) Council, Most Venerable Thich Vien Minh, along with Venerables of the VBS Council and the Executive Council of the VBS.

On the side of Ha Tinh government, attending and congratulating the ceremony were Chairman of the Provincial Fatherland Front Committee Tran Nhat Tan and representatives of leaders of provincial departments and branches and Loc Ha district.

2,567 years ago, Buddha Shakyamuni was born in India. His life is a symbol of the path to enlightenment, bringing the desire for peace and happiness to humanity. Along with that, in Vietnam, Buddhism has entered the life of the nation for over 2,000 years.

On December 15, 1999, at the request of 34 countries, to honor the moral, cultural, ideological, peaceful, solidarity and friendship values ​​of Buddha, the United Nations General Assembly at its 54th session, item 174 of the agenda officially recognized Vesak as an international cultural and religious festival.

In Vietnam in general and Ha Tinh in particular, the annual Buddha's Birthday is solemnly celebrated to honor the good values ​​of Buddhism. At the same time, this is an opportunity for monks, nuns, and Buddhists to review the life and immeasurable merits of Buddha Shakyamuni, thereby upholding morality, strictly observing precepts, obeying the law; further promoting the tradition of protecting the country and the people, accompanying the nation.

At the ceremony, monks, nuns and Buddhists listened to the Deputy Supreme Patriarch of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha Council, Most Venerable Thich Vien Minh, read the message of the 2567th Buddha's Birthday from the Supreme Patriarch of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha.

The message emphasized that this year, on the occasion of Buddha's birthday, Vietnamese Buddhists also respectfully commemorate the 60th anniversary of the day Bodhisattva Thich Quang Duc, the Dharma Master who self-immolated (1963-2023) to fight for national peace. His flame of compassion and his immortal heart have the power to illuminate and awaken human conscience, dispel all hatred, and overcome all narrow-minded selfishness and extreme ideas. He is a shining symbol of the spirit of compassion, wisdom, and courage of a living Bodhisattva and the worldly spirit of Vietnamese Buddhism.

In the context of humanity having just experienced the COVID-19 pandemic, wars and conflicts still taking place in many places around the world , the message calls on monks, nuns and Buddhists to follow the Bodhisattva vows, diligently practice; strive to create solidarity, live a good life, and follow the religion together with the government and the people to join hands to build and protect a strong and prosperous Vietnam.

On this occasion, monks, nuns and Buddhists also listened to the congratulatory letter for the 2023 Buddha's Birthday from Chairman of the People's Committee of Ha Tinh province Vo Trong Hai. On behalf of the provincial leaders, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee respectfully sent congratulations to the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha of the province, clergy, monks, nuns and Buddhists to welcome a peaceful and happy Buddha's Birthday season.

Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Vo Trong Hai acknowledged the important contributions of the dignitaries, officials and Buddhists of the province to the achievements that Ha Tinh has achieved in recent times; at the same time, he expressed his confidence that the dignitaries and Buddhists will continue to promote the tradition of "accompanying the nation", responding to patriotic emulation movements, policies and guidelines of the Party, State and the province, contributing to building Ha Tinh homeland to become increasingly prosperous and happy.
