Two U23 Vietnam players caught the eye of AFF

The U23 Southeast Asian Championship will kick off from July 15-29. U23 Vietnam is highly regarded ahead of the tournament as we were champions in the last two editions in 2022 and 2023.

Ahead of the U23 Southeast Asian tournament, AFF paid special attention to two players of the Vietnam U23 team, Nguyen Van Truong and Nguyen Thai Son. These are players who have played for Vietnam’s youth teams for many years and have had the opportunity to play for the Vietnam national team.

The AFF homepage wrote: “Midfielder Van Truong of Hanoi FC was a member of the U23 Vietnam championship team at the U23 Southeast Asian Championship two years ago. However, in that tournament, he mainly played the role of a reserve player.

In this tournament, the 22-year-old player is aiming to play a more important role. With an impressive physique, Van Truong has the ability to compete for high balls and keep the ball firmly for the home team.

Meanwhile, Thai Son, who turned 22 a few days before the tournament kicked off, brings a lot of quality and experience to coach Kim Sang Sik's squad. Thai Son was named Vietnam's Best Young Player in 2023.

This player is versatile, hard-working and has played for the Vietnam national team in the 2023 Asian Cup and the 2024 U23 Asian Cup finals. He is also a mainstay of Thanh Hoa Club playing in the V-League.

Vietnam U23 will start the AFC U23 Championship with a match against Laos U23 at 5pm on July 19. Then, we will face Cambodia U23 at 8pm on July 22. The top three teams and the second-placed team will qualify for the semi-finals.
