Hai Phong is an old urban area, formed during the French colonial period. Through the upheavals of history, the devastation of war, etc., the Port City has been in a “winter sleep” for decades. However, after only 15 years of implementing Resolution No. 32-NQ/TW of the Politburo (9th tenure), Hai Phong has emerged with a completely new look of a green, civilized, and modern city.

The regional economy has grown quite well, with an average growth rate of 7.94% per year in the period 2005 - 2020, higher than the national average with improved quality based more on total factor productivity (TFP); economic scale has increased rapidly, reaching 2.37 million billion VND in 2020, accounting for 29.4% of the country's total GDP; GRDP per capita reached 103.6 million VND/person/year, 1.3 times higher than the national average. In particular, the marine economy has developed quite well, gradually becoming a major marine economic center.

Hai Phong has become one of the localities with the most attractive environment for domestic and foreigninvestors . The city has also made its mark on the outstanding development of infrastructure, urban and rural transportation, and model new rural construction projects, bringing a new, spacious and modern appearance. Social security work has always received special attention from the city.

Mr. Nguyen Van Tung - Chairman of Hai Phong City People's Committee shared that in 2024, the city is focusing on infrastructure investment. At the same time, new projects and works are urgently implemented such as: expanding Cat Bi International Airport, Nguyen Trai Bridge, Vu Yen II Bridge, Ben Rung Bridge, Rao III Bridge, new road connecting from the city center to Do Son; Ring Roads 2 and 3; new terminals at Hai Phong International Gateway Port; implementing the Hai Phong-Hanoi-Lao Cai high-speed railway project so that by 2025, Hai Phong will have a synchronous, modern, and interconnected transport infrastructure system, worthy of being an international trade center and a driving force for economic development of the whole country.
