Hai Phong drew 0-0 with bottom-placed Da Nang at home in round 12, Hai Phong could not seize the opportunity to take fourth place from Ha Tinh in V-League 2023.
Starting the round with two points behind Ha Tinh , coach Chu Dinh Nghiem and his team were full of hope to improve their position. They only needed to defeat Da Nang, who were in crisis, in the context that Ha Tinh was likely to lose to CAHN in the match at the same time. However, only one of those two conditions happened. Ha Tinh lost to CAHN 2-4, ending the round with 17 points, while Hai Phong was still behind with 16 points because they only drew 0-0 with Da Nang.
This is the sixth consecutive match that Hai Phong has not lost. After 12 rounds, they have only lost to Ha Tinh and Hanoi. However, the port city team has drawn seven matches and is one of the four teams with the most draws, along with Nam Dinh, HAGL and Da Nang.

The performance at Lach Tray Stadium marked a step forward in Da Nang's playing style. This was the second consecutive match that the Han River team played under the direction of coach Pham Minh Duc after firing Phan Thanh Hung. In the previous round, they drew 1-1 with Binh Duong.
In the 3rd minute, Da Nang had a good chance when Lucao do Break tricked goalkeeper Dinh Trieu but his shot towards the empty goal was blocked by Dang Van Toi on the goal line. Hai Phong immediately responded with a fast attack on the left wing. From Tuan Anh's cross, Yurri Mamute made a wall, putting Joseph Mpande in a favorable position. But the Ugandan striker's close-range shot hit goalkeeper Van Bieu and went wide.
After the first few minutes of tit-for-tat, the game started to tilt towards Da Nang as the visitors took better advantage of the space behind the opponent's defense. Lucao tested Dinh Trieu's skills with a diagonal shot from outside the penalty area. Dinh Duy also caused a surprise when he shot hard from 30 meters away. Although it took two strokes, Dinh Trieu still controlled the situation. In the following corner kick, Lucao put the ball into the home team's net but was penalized.
In the second half, Da Nang had a golden opportunity to open the score. A mistake by the home team's defense allowed Phan Van Long to shoot diagonally, forcing Dinh Trieu to dive to block. Lucao rushed in to shoot the rebound, but the Brazilian striker was once again unlucky when his shot was blocked by Pham Trung Hieu before the goal line.
Both teams had chances in the remaining minutes but neither side could score. Fans at Lach Tray were disappointed when Minh Di's cross was intercepted by Mauricio Pinto, preventing the ball from reaching Mamute. At the end of the second half, Dinh Duy faced Dinh Trieu after a good exchange with Anh Tuan but his shot went over the bar.
