The two ministries affirmed that the project to use 3D printing technology to produce hard-to-procure parts for warships and tanks has been underway since 2017 and the latest agreement will pave the way for deeper cooperation between the two ministries.
The project has improved the operational speed of South Korea's defense system by securing parts for warships and tanks, while also enhancing South Korea's manufacturing capabilities in the field of 3D printing.
Accordingly, the Korean government will continue to make efforts to explore new areas where 3D printing technology can be applied, promoting the supply chain and industrial ecosystem for military equipment.
Based on assets including infrastructure and workforce, along with research and development experience, the ministry hopes to achieve significant results through its partnership with the Ministry of National Defense, said Yoon Sung Hyuk, an official at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.
