In late March, many young tourists flocked to the lighthouse in Little Mountain, Vung Tau City to see the cotton flowers. This is also a place chosen by many locals to walk and exercise every afternoon.
Small Mountain or Tao Phung Mountain is 170 m high, with an area of about 120 hectares, is one of two mountains in Vung Tau City, the other is Big Mountain. Small Mountain is located close to the sea, opposite Nghinh Phong Cape, on the top there is a lighthouse built during the French period.
From afar, the blooming cotton flowers create a beautiful scene like "miniature Korea" on the mountainside, next to the poetic seaside town.
Looking up from the base of the tree, the clusters of pure white flowers bloom, standing out against the green of the canopy.
Knowing about the cotton trees through social networks, Ms. Nguyen Tu Trinh (20 years old, living in Ho Chi Minh City) said that she took advantage of the weekend with a group of friends to go to Vung Tau to have fun and take pictures. "The cotton trees here are blooming beautifully, standing from this road I can see the city from above in a peaceful setting. In particular, the space here is very cool in the afternoon, very enjoyable to walk around", Ms. Trinh shared.
As a local resident, Ms. Trinh Thi Lan (49 years old, resident of Thang Nhat ward) shared, “The cotton is very beautiful this year. Every time the gym or work group passes by here, I feel very relaxed. The cotton blooms like snow in the middle of summer with cotton fibers falling and covering the tree canopy in white.”
According to locals, from February, the tree begins to sprout clusters of small, green fruits, hanging down. By mid-March and early April, the cotton balls begin to dry up, turn slightly brown, then bloom, revealing snow-white cotton rolls.
During the cotton season, there are very few leaves left on the tree, the clusters of milky white cotton bloom and flutter in the wind, lying on the branches and falling to the ground like snow. Every year, cotton usually blooms from around the beginning of March to May, ending sooner or later depending on weather conditions.
The kapok tree, also known as the kapok tree, is a tropical tree. Each tree is usually 60-70 meters tall, the trunk and branches have many large, hard thorns, the compound leaves contain 5-9 leaflets, each leaflet up to 20 cm long and similar to palm leaves (palm-shaped leaves). Mature trees produce about several hundred fruits about 15 cm long each. The fruits have seeds enclosed in fine cotton fibers.
